Hello, I am probably asking a very basic question but how do you draw in colour in model space (I have changed the "color" in layer properties) and then change to black and white in the "plot style" so the line then becomes black in your layouts and when you come to print. The "plot style" won't allow me to change it.

Thank you.

Hi,

>> I have changed the "color" in layer properties

And you have made this layer to the active layer?

The (structured) way to work is to define layers (like WALL, FURNITURE, DIMENSIONS, ... as simple samples), give that layers their color, lineweight, linetype, .. and then make the layer active before you start to draw.

If you have created a layer WALL and gave that layer color blue, then made the layer active, then you would create objects which are shown in blue color.

HTH, - alfred -

Hi and Welcome to AutoCAD Forum,

>> I am probably asking a very basic question but how do you draw in colour in model spac

just prepare your Layers with colors ( as needed ) then start draw your lines . either you set current the layer that you want to draw over OR you can draw over any layer then take those lines to a certain layer .

>> (I have changed the "color" in layer properties)

That's right and supposed to have successfully results .

>> and then change to black and white in the "plot style"

you want to draw on colored layers but with black and white plotted output . COLORS in AutoCAD can be identify from three sources ( Index color , True color and Color books ) if you select any one from True and Color books it will be always come color in output and when plot, and your plot style will not affect on them . SO .. if you have a black and white plot style ... then you have to choose colors from AutoCAD Color Index ( ACI ) .

ACI colors are the standard colors used in AutoCAD-based products. Each color is identified by an ACI number, an integer from 1 through 255. Standard color names are available only for colors 1 through 7. The colors are assigned as follows: 1 Red, 2 Yellow, 3 Green, 4 Cyan, 5 Blue, 6 Magenta, 7 White/Black.

Regards, 🙂

When you are printing, you can assign a ctb file (there are several default ones that come with Autocad, or you can create your own). If you use one such as "monochrome.ctb", your drawing will plot as black and white.

If you want layout space to show as black and white, then you can use command PAGESETUP (File>Page setup manager if you are using menus) and tick the little box "display plot styles" which is below the ctb file drop down list.

If you are finding .stb files inside the plot styles list and you want to use ctb files, you can run command CONVERTPSTYLES to switch.
