I did end up getting a new computer and it does not have this problem. The
old computer had a couple of other quirks as well. It had some minor
issues when printing pdfs that others didn't have and it couldn't open
certain zip files that others could.

I have no idea what caused this issue. I would guess it may be caused
somehow by the history of old versions of AutoCAD and other Autodesk
software having been installed, used, and then uninstalled when newer
versions were installed. That may have caused the other issues or they
could have been caused by something else related to the computer having
been around for a while.

It may be worth trying to reimage a computer that is experiencing this
issue, especially if the computer has other issues. Since an uninstall and
reinstall didn't work for me, I don't believe it is an AutoCAD install
issue directly. But I would try uninstalling and reinstalling before doing
a reimage since that takes a while and you lose all the files on the
computer.

We are holding off on reimaging my old computer in case there are still
files I need. After a while, we do intend to reimage it and keep it for a
new CAD user if and when we bring one on board. I'll try to remember to
test the block insert afterwards to see if it remains.

When I try to insert a block from my block library using ACAD 2020 I get the error *INVALID*.

I tried the classicinsert command with the same result.

I added the block's file location to support paths, no change.

I can open the block in 2020 just fine. I tried saving it from 2020 and then inserting but I still get the *INVALID* error.

The blocks insert fine in ACAD 2018. If I use 2018 to insert the block, and then (in 2020) use design center to pull the block from that drawing into a new drawing, it works fine. Once the block is successfully inserted into the drawing, it will insert again. However, if I use classicinsert to try to redefine the block (the new block palette grays out the "insert and redefine" and "redefine only" options), I get the *INVALID* error again.

How can I get my blocks to insert into 2020 using the new block palette and classicinsert instead of design center?

Okay,

the uploaded file is not a library, but a dwg with dynamic parameters, so you can insert the file 'as block'.

I inserted the file via Designcenter, also via classicinsert and via a new created insertion tool inside my toolpalette (2020),

all works fine, no problems.

(on my version the BLOCK PERFORMANCE HOTFIX is NOT installed, do you installed the hotfix or not?)

It isn't a pure autocad file, so please tell us your productname&version (Command: ABOUT)

when I referred to a library I just meant a folder full of .dwg files that I insert as blocks when needed.

For me, the only thing that worked was inserting from design center, but only after I inserted the block into another file using ACAD 2018. I can't use design center to insert the blocks (.dwg files) directly.

I don't think I've installed the block performance hotfix, but maybe it was included in a service pack. My product version suggests I haven't installed any service packs yet. I install those from the Autodesk desktop app. Maybe I installed the hotfix from there. It shows that there are no updates available. I didn't find a hotfix in my add or remove programs list. I can't remember if they show up there or not.

I also use Plant 3D. I may have worked on that block from Plant 3D 2018. That might explain it not being a pure AutoCAD file. There are other blocks in the "library" that I haven't edited and therefore don't think have been edited in Plant 3D. There are a lot of civil 3D users in my company so maybe they've been edited with that. The block I had provided may have also been edited/originally created with civil 3D. Here is another block from the library that I tested with the same results (I haven't had any work yet, but I moved on after trying 5 or so). I haven't edited this one, so it may be pure AutoCAD.

My product versions are:

     AutoCAD 2020 - Q.47.0.0 AutoCAD 2020

     AutoCAD Plant3D 2020 - N047.502 Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D 2020.0.1 Update

     AutoCAD 2018 - 0.161.0.0 AutoCAD 2018.1.2 Update

     AutoCAD Plant3D 2018 - K049.1510.r2.update Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D 2018.1.2 Update

They could have been worked on in any version of civil 3D or AutoCAD (or other things for that matter) at some point in the past. The testing I have done since I noticed the issue has only been in AutoCAD 2020 and 2018.

I ran an install repair on ACAD 2020. The problem has changed now. Some of the blocks that weren't inserting before insert fine now. Some of the blocks behave in exactly the same way. A lot of the blocks give me a different error now. They now say *Invalid Block Name*. So I followed the solution to the forum post:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/error-when-inserting-block-invalid-block-name/td-p/8761422

and it worked. But I don't want to have to fix every block that way. The block that had worked for CADffm is the one that changed errors and I fixed. Since it worked for CADffm without performing the fix, it should work for any good install. So I will try reinstalling, and if that doesn't work uninstalling and installing fresh. But I have to get some work done right now so that will have to wait. I'll post my results after I have time to work at it more.

I started messing with this issue again. It would not reinstall, it gave me a file not found error. So I uninstalled and reinstalled AutoCAD and Plant 3D 2020. That reverted the problem back to how it behaved before I did the repair. So I had the other CAD user in the office (who was on vacation during my initial struggles) attempt to insert the same blocks with 2020 and it worked fine for her. So I guess there must be something wrong with my computer. I just started working for this company 2 months ago and my computer does seem to have been around for a while. There are remnants of several old versions of AutoCAD. I'll ask IT if we can reimage the computer. Maybe I'll get a new computer out of this.

For what it's worth, we have 2 users (including me!) with ACAD 2020 having the same problems here. Hope we find a fix soon.

Possibly it was related to an outdated Civil 3D Object Enabler when using AutoCAD or another vertical except Civil 3D.

This issue was fixed with the latest Civil Object enabler.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-civil-3d-2020-object-enabler.html

If no Object Enabler is installed, this *invalid* block problem does not occur either.

And it only occurs with drawings/blocks that contain Civil/AEC Information.
