Thanks for the drawing. When I did copy with base point command of one or your scale blocks and using the end of the line as the base point, it worked fine. Image below shows the block and the "x" shows the basepoint I used when I copied your scale block and it copied fine when I did a Ctrl V and inserted at the same point. Not sure why it's pasting at a different basepoint. If you haven't done so already, reboot your computer/ACAD and see if that helps.

Hello,
I’m using the "copy by base point" command in AutoCAD 2018. I select the base point I want to insert at and when I paste it defaults to a different location. Any ideas?

Are you page setups exactly the same from where you're copying the item to where it's going? Is it possible to upload the drawing files that you're working with so we can take a look?

I am just attempting to copy basic line work such as a line or scale bar. I have multiple tabs in the same dwg file and I want to just copy form one tab to the other.

That is the same point I have been using, but when I paste the insert point is in another spot. I have been having the same issue since I loaded the program on my computer. Thank you

You say another spot but which spot? Troubleshooting always requires as much detail as possible.

Is it the bottom left of the block?

Your scalebar block works as expected in I paste into a blank file: in your file, it moves away from the cursor to the upper right side of where ever I click in the layouts or modelspace.

Your file is reporting errors in R2019 but fixing them did nothing.

I suggest your INSERT your DWG file into an empty file that works well, EXPLODE it, and recreate your layouts. You could probably be done in the time it takes for other replies to show up and you test or explain it all over again 🙂

Works fine on 2019 plain AutoCAD. You can change the Basepoint on the fly while in the insert command as an immediate band aid for this and future reference.
