Multiple Users opening the same File

I work in an office of about 20 employees where 18 of them routinely access Autocad files off our unix-base NAS.

All our files are held on the NAS for convenience.

Moving files off the NAS to work on them locally is only going to make matters worse, don't suggest it.

All files are accessed via Group Policy assigned network mapped drives.

Of my employees currently experiencing the problem of multiple users opening the same file I have 7 in total.

Of the 7; four are using Autocad 2019, one is using 2018, and two are using 2017. All of them are opening files that the others are working on.

Of the Operating systems in question: all the Autocad 2019 computers are running Windows 10, so is the 2018, the 2017 computers are running Windows 7. Our Windows server is 2012 R2 and our NAS is an up-to-date Disk Station from Synology. We didn't experience this problem when we first moved up to 2017 and we were all using the Disk Station with shared network drives. Nothing has changed. This problem has been going on for a while now, but I have been looking and trying to instill good practices in my users (HAH!). None of that has worked out so I am reaching out to you.

I don't know what I can log for or look for on the network to monitor the lock files. What can I do? Is there any kind of fix available? I am looking forward to hearing from you.

The device is called a Disk Station and it is made and maintained by Synology.

I already reached out to Synology for a way to block multiple clients from accessing the same files. To their knowledge that granular level of control was not possible on their hardware or software. So, I came here to find out what Autodesk could tell me.

No one here is Autodesk. and they don't comment on end user hardware choices.

While you wait for others to chime in... File locking (when someone has a file open and another person tries and get a message it is read-only) has to come from the operating system where the files reside (server or PC, or in your case the NAS). Thank you for posting.

Autodesk software does not limit the ability to configure file locking services. Since the 2000 version release, Autodesk software no longer controls file locking or creates lock files. A drawing, stored on a network file server can be opened and edited simultaneously by multiple users without any warnings that the file is already open.
All changes made and saved prior to the most recent save are overwritten.

Configuring file locking services is managed by the operating system of the network file server or file access software. This may require IT support depending on the operating system in use, file locking attributes maybe a function of:

Group or user permissions
Share permissions
Folder or file permissions
System policies

When trying to open file saved by another drafter I get a windows crash log file which goes on and on like this. Any thoughts on what causes this? They open the dwg file ok on their machines but when i open the same file on my machine it crashes with this dump.
