Read out the point ordinates from a lofted 3D surface?

Hi,

I would like to read out the point ordinates from a lofted 3D surface.

Could anyone help me with this?

Hi,

when using ID command the X,Y,Z coordinate values are displayed at the Command prompt or near your cursor when Dynamic Input is ON ( F12 ) . With object snaps turned on, you can select an object and see the coordinates for a feature such as an endpoint, midpoint, or center.

You could use the inquiry tool ID as said by @imadHabash.

This command lets you to select anywhere on the screen and it would return the X,Y&Z coordinates for that point.

Use the ID command with activated 3D-OSnap "Nearest to face".

Here another possibility (if you have given e.g. the X- and Y-value of a point and need the Z-coordinate on a given surface).

In this example I have drawn an arbitrary surface and want to know the Z-values on the surface where the XY-values are 12,5 and a second example 20,8.

Hi,

I would create a block with an attribute, the attribute holds a FIELD showing the Z-value of the insertion point.

Then place that block onto the surface, the attribute will automatically display the Z-value ... ready for _PLOT as well as for _DATAEXTRACTION.

Could you please tell the detailed steps, and I will try them on AutoCAD 2008.

This is implemeted since version ACAD 2011 (I guess), in older Versions you will not find it.

Why you didn't tell us at the beginning that you are working with such an old ACAD version (now we have 2020, that is 12/16 versions later than yours).

Please post an example dwg with your "lofted surface". So we can check which object type we are talking about. And tell us how you determine the point whose coordinates you want to get. Perhaps we will find another solution for your problem.

Hi everyone,

I am currently doing some ship outer shell expansion plan jobs in a shipyard.

From the frame plan or some other measurements, I can have some 2D curves on different levels (see figure below).

And with "Loft" command, I can create 3D surface like Fig 2,

In the shell expansion, the 3D surface is made into a 2D plane for steel plate production. And now, I need the ordinations of nearly every pints on the surface, the denser the better. For example, in the attached file, I want to know Y ordinate of a point for given X and Z values.

Could anyone help me in this?

Because I am working in an old workshop, the only tools I can relayed on are AutoCAD 2004 or 2008.

Now I'm confused. Your example file was NOT created using neither AutoCAD 2004 nor AutoCAD 2008. Which application did you use?

Regardless of this: Please let me (us) know if your AutoCAD knows a MESH command. I know, AutoCAD 2018 does, but I can't check this for AutoCAD 2008. And I can't remember anymore either.
