100 mb 2d building layout

Trying to reduce the size of building layout using autocad 2018.

Any ideas?

Some ideas:

Command _PURGE (also _-PURGE and option _REGAPPS).
Command _WBLOCK
draw in a structured way (using blocks for items that are equal and used at multiple positions)
Split the dwg-file into multiple files (either by location or by logical separation) and use then _XREF to get them together, but only the ones needed.

I have tried those and my file size only reduced from 118mb to 115mb

Within that few minutes you might have tried the suggestions about _PURGE, but not the _XREF way.

Can you upload the dwg-file so we can see why that drawing is that large (we might find ideas what you can do, we might see that the geometry simply is that complex and needs that file-space).

Why then saving in DWG-2013 format?

This

slows down saving
slows down opening
and you might have objects that can't be saved back and re-updated without the risk of dataloss.

BTW: which issues do you have with that dwg-file.

Even with 100MB is looks quite performant on my system.

Hi,

to the structure ...

Some parts look ok, blocks are used and working well, but other parts are lines, even when used many times in the dwg-file.

Looks like some guys have a good knowledge in AutoCAD, and others, working with that dwg-file, are missing the part about structured working in DWG.

See that sample, used multiple times in the dwg-file, but no blocks ... and just 3 different peaces have 1500 entities, but could be 3 blocks, strange!

Saved in 2013 format due to not everyone in the organization having autocad newest revision. Yes this file could have been touched by 100 different people until someone sent it to me in which it is slow and sluggish on my end.

I would never save back my working file to an older file format because of the risk of damage.

If anyone wants to have the file in an older format, he can take DWG-TrueView and create his copy, but never do that with the original working project file.

It's a question of risk and of lost working time.

If you have a chance, then train these people.

If these drawings come from other companies, then I would suggest to define a drawing structure for data exchange, or you need to get the time paid to get that file better working. There does not exist an automatism like "make the drawing structured".
