Screen side menu

Hi,

I've been experimenting with AutoCAD 2018. I recall that in older versions, I used to be able to access additional menus by placing the cursor on either side of the screen and then right click. Somehow this feature does not work in 2018. Please advice if this feature is still available and how to activate it.

Right click? No idea what you could means.

But legacy SCREENMENU (you slection option by LEFT click): Yes, it is obsolet BUT available.

(vla-put-DisplayScreenMenu (vla-get-Display (vla-get-Preferences (vlax-get-acad-object))) :vlax-true)

So it is stored in the Profile (if isn't present, equal to =0 =OFF

Sample RegistryPath for 2018 Users:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R22.0\<ACAD-1001:4nn>\Profiles\<ProfileName>\Drawing Window\ScreenMenu

(DWORD 32), Value = 0/1

Are you referring to the menus for selecting toolbars? I know its a pain, but those menus only show up when you right click on a blank area around a docked toolbar. You first need to get a toolbar to display using CUI.

Well essentially I used to access the contents of the CUI by placing the cursor on the side of the screen and then right click to dock them on one side of the screen. I'm wondering if took this feature out for 2018.

What they took out is that by default, toolbars are not displayed in the workspace. The preference is for the ribbon. Yes, to do that you need to have a toolbar docked so you can hover your mouse over the blank area created by the toolbar only filling part of the area. Open CUI. Click on the active workspace in the left. It will show up in the right panel. 1> On the left side click and drag a toolbar to the Toolbars section of your workspace on the right side. 2> Click on the toolbar and then below, 3> change the Orientation to which side you want the toolbar to dock on.

Now you can right click on an area around the toolbar.

Toolbars.. ok

Command: -TOOLBAR
Enter toolbar name or [ALL]: Draw

Enter an option [Show/Hide/Left/Right/Top/Bottom/Float] : Show

Command:

And then: RightClick on the Toolbar will bring a list off all other toolbars from the same cuix,

don't forget to save your new Workspace (Command: WSSAVE)

From my experience, there is no such tool to click on
when hovering to either side of the screen.

Perhaps you are talking about
PROPERTIES
DESIGN CENTER
TOOL PALETTES
SHEET SET MANAGER
MARKUP SHEET MANAGER
DRAWING RECOVERY
LAYERS
EXTERNAL REFERENCES
IMAGES
QUICKCALC
etc...
Where these expand when hovering over their collapsed "bar".
These are called "floating/docked windows and panels".
There are toolbar toggles for a few of these. Most can be accessed
by typing the name (without spaces) on the command line.

No this was a feature on older versions that would load AuoCAD menus for docking them on the side of the screen. And hovering alone didn't activate it. A mouse click was necessary for activation & only when cursor was on the far sides of the screen. I used AutoCAD heavily in the 90s & just recently had to use the newer version because of a project requirement. Most companies have moved on and use Revit for most part. Thanks anyway! It's amazing how people come together to help out from who knows where. I appreciate everyone's help!!!

You're referring to the Screen Menu that CADffm talked about in posts 2 and 7. This has been deprecated in recent versions. 'Use the Ribbon Luke'.

Actually, if you teach yourself a few shortcut commands you can bring up the floating toolpalettes with them and then set them to anchor left/right, autocollapse etc.

TP for tool palettes, XR for XREF Manager and so on.

Shortcut commands also make it less necessary to rely on the Ribbon, and give you a bit of an advantage when you work on an unfamiliar setup.

M for move, L for line and so on.

It depends on how old of a version you are talking about. Before the Ribbon they had the Dashboard, perhaps that is what you are asking about? That went away and replaced by the Ribbon.

It didn't quite work for me specially the docking and even if it did, it seems like a lot of steps and not worth it. Thank you so much for your time!
