Sorry for the late reply. ( Really late )

I've been going to the insert tab then attaching the files.

Is there something different about typing in xref and pulling up the file that way? Both way's I've tried I still wind up with all the files not being there.

Inserting XREFS with multiple references

Hello,

I'm having an issue with inserting XREFS that have multiple references into drawings.

When I insert an xref with multiple references occasionally the references won't be attached when I insert it to the drawing.

My workaround has been to just go to the base reference in the files and then copy over what I needed onto the first xref, but i'm assuming there is an easy solution to get one file with multiple references to keep those when I insert them. I'll post some example images to see if that would be of help.

For example i'm trying to insert the first image into the drawing, but it winds up being incomplete in the second image.

Chances are the XREF with multiple x-references are set to "Overlay" instead of "Attachment".

In the XREF palette of the "host" xerf, click on the xref, and change the TYPE from "Overlay" to "Attachment" for each xref. Save the host xref drawing, and then in your sheet layout drawing where you want to the XREFs to show up, simply reload the host XREF

I personally try to avoid nested XREFs. I would remove them from the host and XREF them directly in my file.

@Anonymous wrote:

.… I'm having an issue with inserting XREFS that have multiple references into drawings.

When I insert an xref with multiple references occasionally the references won't be attached when I insert it to the drawing.

.... i'm assuming there is an easy solution to get one file with multiple references to keep those when I insert them. ....

For example i'm trying to insert the first image into the drawing, but it winds up being incomplete in the second image.

In addition to what's already been said about the Attachment-vs.-Overlay option:

Do you literally mean INSERT by all those? The INSERT command? Not XREF? INSERT has a specific meaning in AutoCAD. I've never tried INSERT-ing a drawing that contains XREFs, to see whether the nested Xrefs come through, but I have my doubts -- the usual [if not, as I suspect, necessary] way would be to XREF such a thing. Or are you just using the word "insert" in a generic way, and you really are XREF-ing them?

What's your product and product-version? Command: ABOUT

I guess you not talk about acad (ACADE?) and without you product information an you dwg files,

just an ACADE(?) user know what happens.

From POV from plain autocad (Product= AutoCAD, Objects also plain AutoCAD objects) the answers

above are right (attachment instead of overlay), but your picture displays "outlines" and this is

where i stumbled in this case.
