xref bind error

Hi there,

I am wondering if I can get any suggestions on how to solve xref that cant be bind.

We have inherited a project and having all sort of problems one of them is that we can bind an xref.

I have tried everything I could think of, for example purge (all and regapps),audit, recover, detach xref as attached again, export as dwf and back to dwg, wblock, etransmit...

I can't add the file here, unfortunately, as we have an NDA signed, but I would appreciate any suggestions.

Without being able to examine the files, it'll be hard for us to nail down the issue.

Have you tried the AECTOACAD command

Have you tried making everything .dxf

I appreciate it being difficult without the file.
I did try .dxf - didn't work
I tried again AECTOACAD it came with the error below

Error: At least one of the specified xrefs failed to bind for an unknown reason.
ERROR: Xref-Bind failed (eWasOpenForWrite)
ERROR: could not process Xrefs!

I never got these before.

Did you AUDIT the file to become the bdinded xref ?

Does it contain blocks with attributes ?

Are you talking about a unique DWG that refuses to be binded or several ?

I guess only one.

What does it contain ? Maybe it is easy to say 😉

(I would first remove blocks with attributes, don't ask me why !)

Maybe you didn't try to save it in an antique version like R12 ?

Hi Tramber,

I tried your suggestions and didn't work.

It is an 500kb drawing with 2 xrefs the xrefs are a bit more complex drawings but the files seem to be fine couldn't find any errors.

None of the xrefs are binding, I am assuming now that it is a problem with the xrefs files as other files with them are not binding either.

I have everything in overlay, I have audit and purged and recover all files.

Also tried exporting them to DXF with no luck

I tried saving it on an older version and removing blocks with attribute as suggested - didn't work.

Hope it give a better idea

You said you have everything on overlay, but just to confirm:

Are your two xrefs referenced directly into the host file? Or do you have nested xrefs? (C is xref'd into B which is then xref'd into A, and you're trying to Bind from within "A")

There used to be an issue with trying to bind nested xrefs where they wouldn't always bind. This was back about ten years ago, but I haven't really tried it much in recent years to know if it's still the case.

You may try to recover the target files first and then bind them again.

Do the file contain blocks and/or Xrefs, nested, attributes, groups,...Etc ?

Or not ?

What does it make if you change BINDTYPE ? We never know even if I don't beleive deeply that it would be a problem of name....

In a word, maybe you can describe what's in, we never know...

AUDIT was made. I think it is the same result.
