It seems to me that this is a simple matter of drawing the outline of the logo (at whatever size you need it to be) using polylines (joining them wherever possible) and then adding up the lengths (found in Properties) of the various polylines.

What is the best method for calculating the total perimeter for a laser-etched object? An example could be the "FedEx" logo - let's say the logo is scaled to be about 40" wide, including the registered trademark (a machine will cut from a 1/2" MDF board). How would you calculate the logo perimeter plus the islands?

as long as it is drawn with "p" lines or polylines you can do two things one you can click on the object, once highlighted you can go to properties and it should tell you, you can also type in "area" into the command line and it'll give you both the square footage and also the perimeter

Hey @Anonymous

I would suggest the BOUNDARY command. Just ensure that your "logo" or "objects" are enclosed inside a rectangle/circle etc. The poly lines obtained can help you get the perimeter.

You can also try out this tool from the app store that's a plugin alternative for boundaries. Hope this helps
