I've been using AutoCAD 2013 at work since it came out. When I upgraded to AutoCAD 2015, and now 2020, I observed that when entities are selected the highlighting changed from the dotted line approach to something like a neon tube. I am starting to have some issues with my eyes and this visualization method is kind of hard to look at as it makes selected entities look fat and blurry. I would like to know if there is a way to change this back to the method used in earlier versions.

if it's the color you want to change the system variable SELECTIONEFFECTCOLOR controls that.

You can also turn off SELECTIONEFFECT ... does that help better?

That should look very different, but it depends on hardware acceleration. by any chance, is your hardware acceleration disabled or does your graphic card run on DirectX9 instead of DirectX11 (to be controlled using command _GRAPHICSCONFIG).

That means either your graphic card is not compatible with DirectX11 (from AutoCAD's point of view) or you have used a workaround (for previous versions of AutoCAD) so AutoCAD just uses the older DirectX interface, maybe because you had troubles with the graphic card previously.

When you start command _GRAPHICSCONFIG ... can you show a screenshot from that dialog?

I am using a computer setup as a "CAD workstation" back in 2012. It is running win 7 and there have been no hardware or significant software upgrades since. I believe they are planning on upgrading to win 10 in the near future but don't know if that will affect this issue. My video card is an AMD Radeon HD 6670.

Yes, it will affect the whole situation as all drivers are then new (I hope Windows 10 will be installed from scratch and not as update from your existing Windows 7).

I also hope that Windows 10 is not installed on a workstation that is 7 years old. Some of your hardware will not be supported from Windows 10 (or only with some very generic drivers, that have then not a good performance).

My apologies Alfred, it does look like you first posted the solution. I saw the selectioneffectcolor reference and missed your reference to selectioneffect. I noticed it when Kent mentioned it in post #10 and tried it which solved my problem. Also I hadn't personally indicated your posted reply #3 as a solution and was initially put off by it having showed up as one. I hope this clarifies things and I did like your reply.
