I am attaching an assembly drawing that I use for CAD class instruction.

All components in the exploded view are extended in the appropriate axis' at .75" increments.

Model Space is where the objects are placed and aligned, Paper Space is where the Viewport, tags, parts list, and alignment lines are placed.

Hope this is a good example for you?

I've been trying to assemble some 3rd parts for a while to finish a project for work, but I can't find a way to start an assembly file in AutoCAD 2020

Hi,

>> but I can't find a way to start an assembly file in AutoCAD 2020

AutoCAD itself does not know "assemblies" as known in products like Inventor.

What you can do is to use XRef's to insert other dwg-files (parts) into your current drawing (main assembly in your words).
