block editor does not appear...?

When I attempt to edit a block or an x-ref in place, or edit a block, the block editor tools do not show up and I have not been able to save any edits to blocks or xrefs. In fact, I can't get out of editing the block or xref unless I close the file without saving. This is Autocad 2019.

Hi,

I doubt that the block edit dialog box is stuck in different monitor (may be when you were using dual monitor).

Press alt+spacebar, then press M, now press the arrow key left or right and then move your mouse.

for Blocks type BCLOSE to get out and for xrefs type REFCLOSE . also from your Ribbon ( if it's active ) you can follow contextual ribbons that will appear when edit a block .

BEDIT command will show block editor tools. BCLOSE command gets you out of it.
REFEDIT command will not: screen just goes dark around the block or xref you are editing. REFCLOSE command gets you out of it.

All of the above is documented in HELP which you can each in those commands and out of them if you get stuck.

It appears from your post you are not sure which command you are in: find out, confirm, do not assume double-clicking gets you what you want.

Thank you for this work-around of typed commands. As you can see from my screen capture, the block editor is missing from my ribbon and drop-down menus.

BEDIT brings up "edit block definition" for me, not the block editing tools icons where you can save changes to a block, discard, add or remove items from a block.

I was opening blocks/xrefs to edit by right-clicking on them, and selecting "Edit xref in place" or "edit block in place"

So the command line at the bottom indicates _refedit as I do this.

It's the Redfedit toolbar that I'm missing.

You did not start the block-editor, you started _REFEDIT that is a different function.

The block editor is started using command _BEDIT (>>>details<<<).

That's REFEDIT command: do yourself a favor and learn to watch the commandline to see what commands are triggered, those descriptions are not detailed, they are not a replacement to actual command names. Then tap HELP to explore it.

That is how BEDIT starts if you type it, it wants you to select the block you want to edit first, if it is not already pre-selected and highlighted, BEFORE you get all the goodies you are used to seeing.

let's try this for Xref Edit issues :

set your Menubar = 1 .
from Tools >> Toolbars >> AutoCAD >> Refedit
if you really need for this toolbar and others if you wish , save your workspace from WORKSPACE command or from the icon at the status bar with special name .

Regarding your block editor .... when you double click your block or Bedit , you will notice up there in the ribbon a Block Editor tab appear that will make things easy to control . does the previous lines fix your issue ? 🙂

Not sure if this still a problem for you but if you can't open up block editor you could try to set the system variable (by typing this on the keyboard) BLOCKEDITLOCK to 0

I am having this issue now. After getting a new computer at work, and transferring my programs and settings, I no longer have the block editor tab on my ribbon when I am editing a block. I have tried many suggestions from articles I've found online but to no avail. Can I please get someone to point me in the right direction?

Then RESIST migrating/importing anything from the old computer and test: issue still exist?

Thanks pendean for your quick reply. That fixed all of the issues I was having with my AutoCAD 2020 program. However, I don't see the same 'Reset settings to Default' when I look under my 2018 AutoCAD program, and I am having the same issues there. I tried to restore the acad.cuix file based on a few articles I found online but that didn't do the trick. Any other suggestions for my 2018?

Use your windows search field and type in DEFAULT

I am sure windows will offer two (or more) results, of of them is for 2018.

Only one found?

Right click on the sesrch result, open folder (or similar).

Now the WinExplorer is open, navigate one folder back and jump into 2018 folder, is there no Link to reset 2018?

If not:

(Export 2018 settings if you know how)

and then:

Right click on the Reset-2020 link, Properties, Kopie the target

and edit the string for the 2018 path.

Copy the the edited string into:

[WIN]+[R]

Open:

and press OK.
