&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&lt;FONT color="#333399"&gt;&lt;EM&gt;&amp;gt;&amp;gt; How do we decide the position of columns in a residential building?&lt;/EM&gt;&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Technical knowledge, it's up to you to place them ... AutoCAD does not have such functionality.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;It might be easier using Autodesk Revit, but not sure about that.&lt;/P&gt;

      <description>&lt;P&gt;How do we decide the position of columns in a residential building??....I couldn't find much useful information while searching online. I have attached the plan of building. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Thanks in an anticipation.&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;The column positions you allude to cannot be determined without knowledge of the building. The column locations will typically be determined based on the horizontal beams and the beams will will typically be determined based on the span and load it must bear.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;</description>

&lt;P&gt;&lt;FONT color="#000000"&gt;as a beginner ... i suggest to find a structural&amp;nbsp;engineer that will give you the concept of how columns and beams work together , and what is the minimum and maximum spans that you can follow .&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/P&gt;

      <description>&lt;P&gt;As noted by others, you should get a professional involved for sizing beams.&amp;nbsp; &lt;SPAN style="font-family: inherit;"&gt;The structure you show would probably rely on load bearing walls rather than the columns you asked about.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&amp;nbsp; To get a feel for what is involved check out &lt;A href="https://archive.org/stream/gov.law.icc.irc.2012/icc.irc.2012#page/n147/mode/1up/search/header" target="_blank" rel="noopener"&gt;this&lt;/A&gt; link for international residential building codes.&amp;nbsp; Will the building be in an area where snow loads must be considered?&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;SPAN style="font-family: inherit;"&gt;It looks like the greatest span you face is about 30'.&amp;nbsp; However, a truss that spans the entire structure may be a possibility.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;</description>
