How to add new elements to layout from model

hi,

i have done a drawing and produced the relevant views in layout. i have had to go back into the model and draw some additional new fixings. how to i now get these new element's into my layout?

@warren3QYVV Do you just wanT to know how to add viewports in your layout?

Or just grip-edit them to make the viewports there wider/taller?

What does "new fixings" mean to the rest of us please?

Hi @warren3QYVV,

If these additions are in the same viewports then they will update automatically. If the new items are in a different location to your current views, then you'll need to create a new Viewport to show these.
The easiest way would be to copy a current viewport, double click through the viewport (making sure it's unlocked) and navigate to the new drawn information.

Using a set scale.

thanks for your replies. I have attached the drawing for your reference. I had initially drawn the boxes but after had to add a bolt fixing to the top. this bolt however does not show up on my layout

i hope this makes sense

Click the viewport and type VIEWUPDATE or click the icon in the ribbon that says update view

Select the PARENT View, then select Edit View from the ribbon. Use sElect (type E) from the options and select the new objects.

Type in the command "VIEWBASE", select "From model space" to insert the view.

Thanks, the VIEWBASE works to an extent but im not sure if i have explained it properly.

my drawing was complete and saved as a layout in the attached (bolt2.jpg.) i then had to modify it by drawing a bolt (bolt.jpg) is there a way of showing the newly drawn bolt within the existing layout?

Maybe a bit unusual if this (drawing-) variable would be 0

...but is VIEWUPDATEAUTO set to 1?

Which command did you use to create those viewports?
Which version of autocad are you running?

I think when creating the viewports you used VIEWBASE command, then used 'select' to create a selection of what you want to display.
When you add the bolt, it's not part of that selection set you previously created.

Go to your BASE view, edit view, select, add the bolt or objects you want and exit.

If you had only one object in your model and you didn't use select, the view would automatically update. I don't work in 3D but I think most people would use one DWG per assembly?
