topic Model Appears to Jump Up and Down (Poor Performance in AutoCAD 2020) in AutoCAD Forum

My model appears to jump up and down slightly causing me to miss the object I want to select (object selection lag) despise using a (certified) Quadro P4000 GPU with the current (certified) drivers (411.95-quadro-desktop-notebook-win10-64bit-international-whql.exe) and trying the recommended solutions in Autodesk help articles I found. This problem has occurred in all of my models since I installed AutoCAD 2018 more than two years ago.

Disabling high-quality geometry is not an option because the work I do requires this (showing the transparency hatch pattern to show that some objects are beneath other objects in plan view).

I have done the following:

Installed the latest version of AutoCAD and all updates.

Ran AutoCAD as administrator.

Cleared the AutoCAD graphics cache.

Deleted temporary Windows and AutoCAD files.

Enabled hardware acceleration. Disabling hardware acceleration significantly reduces performance.

Reconciled all XREFs and layers.

Maybe it's network configuration problem.

Have you tried putting all project files and references and disconnecting from the network?

Have you tried turning off background programs/apps you have running?

You mentioned this seems to be occurring on various occasions with different files, correct? This leads us to believe that it is related to performance as you pointed out, likely related to graphics.

Have you tried opening your files on another AutoCAD 2020 supported computer with a different graphics card to test this?

I store all files locally, so it is not a network issue.

I had not tried turning off other applications because I use them
concurrently with AutoCAD. Consequently, turning off these applications is
not a good solution for me. Anyway, I tried doing this anyway, and the
problem continued.

Hello @bvanklein-FC_Design,

Have you reviewed my response? Have you tested it on another AutoCAD 2020 supported computer with a different graphics card?

The performance issues could be related to the graphic card or AutoCAD drawing file has complex components.

If your graphics card supports DirectX or OpenGL switch to it instead by going to CPU settings on your operating system & set the supported display type. I believe yours supports OpenGL, OpenCL & CUBA.

AutoCAD Performance Drivers for NVIDIA QUADRO

https://www.nvidia.com/drivers

Review the Hardware section & try the suggestions you haven't already tried in this article: >Slow or poor performance in AutoCAD<

Thank you for the tips, Natasha. I tried two ideas that I had not before and noticed an improvement initially, but the problem became worse as I continued to model.

This is what I did:

I am using a dual graphics system (Intel integrated graphics (7900X 10-core CPU) along with a NVIDIA Quadro P4000 GPU, so I set AutoCAD to use the GPU and OPENGL (see How to configure Autodesk software to use high performance graphics).

I cleared the AutoCAD graphics cache by typing CACHEMAXFILES on the command line and set it to 0(zero), then restarted AutoCAD. (Set CACHEMAXFILES to 256 after it restarted.)

Do you have any other ideas? It would be really nice if my workstation with Autodesk certified hardware could run the software better than my 5 year old Microsoft Surface.

In order make that comparison all things inside of AutoCAD need to equal. Pay special attention to graphics related settings, support file paths, internet connection related settings, command line settings, etc.

The fact that performance seems to worsen with time steers me towards memory issues rather than AutoCAD settings, though.

Hello @bvanklein-FC_Design,

Have you had a chance to try the other suggestions provided?

System variables maybe set affecting the performance, try reviewing SYSVARMONITOR.

The System Variable Monitor is designed to contain a list of AutoCAD system variables and provide access to view and change the default values as needed.

On the Sysvar monitor dialog you can click the “RESET ALL” button to reset all system variables to defaults or select specific system variables then, test your file. If the issue is resolved go back to the sysvar monitor & make your adjusts to the values as needed.

Please "Accept Solution" if a reply or replies have helped resolve the issue or answered your question, to help others in the community.
