I would think the template location would be as specified in your OPTIONS dialog -> Files tab -> Template Settings -> Drawing Template File Location

(also is the folder that opens when you change from dwg to dwt in the File type in the open file dialog)

My company has a CAD support file, saved to my C drive, which we use, and our interface has an "Insert layout" button, from which various layouts can be selected. I've been unable to locate the layout template file (or files) on my C drive.

I would like to modify one of the layout templates - is there a way to find out where a layout template is located on your drive from within AutoCAD? Alternatively, is there a way to add a new layout template to an "Insert Layout" button?

I can give more information if needed. What I want to do is permanently change the plotter for a pdf layout.

You can also pick Open, change the file type to Drawing Template (*.dwt) from the drop down at the bottom of the dialog box. Whatever folder is defined in Options will open and list all .dwt in that folder.

>"is there a way to find out where a layout template is located on your drive from within AutoCAD? "

Sure. Start with the Button, the content behind the button.

Or a quick-try:

Set CMDECHO to 1 and push the button, look into the textscreen[F1].

What is logged from Command: CMDECHO.... to the end?

Perhaps there is a hint where you can find the Layout.

If not: Share a screenshot of the whole program window visible and show us

where the Button is.

You will find the Button definition in your ABI command. Share the screenshot and we can help you.

EDIT: But It that isn't a standard button, the right way is to ask the creator! Who created the button

or is it from a 3.party program?

Our button-creator has long since moved on from our corporate domain, perhaps onto some leisurely pursuit. In all likelihood, he or she is fiddling with someone else's corporate buttons.

Your CMDECHO <1> doesn't seem to do much.

The button doesn't present as any spectacle. It's a small square in the toolbar, with the letters IL - for Insert Layer, in bold red. Upon hovering, the tooltip "Insert Layout Templates - Insert paper size templates for plots" appears. A click reveals the various layouts within, with no other options.

At any rate, the other two gentlemen have answered my questions sufficiently.
