topic Unsaved File in AutoCAD Forum

I would like to ask... I have had my laptop turn off while the project I was working on in autoCAD was still unsave. When I reopened the application it asked me to restore the files... but all the files got restored except the file I was working on... I have checked my automatic file save and it put on "every 10 minutes" and when I checked the saved file path... I was not able to reach the file... can you please let me know if there is a way to restore it... because the autoCAD application recognized and asked for me to restore the files... but it literally restored each of the files except the one I was working on.

Thanks

Hi,

>> I have had my laptop turn off while the project I

>> was working on in autoCAD was still unsave

Did you turn off the laptop or was it in sleep mode? (both is not recommended!)

The auto-save only keeps files (SV$-files) when AutoCAD crashes, then you'll find a SV$-file in the %TEMP% fo the next time you start AutoCAD.

If you stopped AutoCAD and told AutoCAD not to save the DWG-file then you have no chance to get the unsaved condition back. Please find here more information about auto-save >>>click<<<

@fudalmud wrote:

To activate the AutoSave functionality, your file must have been saved at least once (manually). If you never saved the file you will have no chance to restore it.

A tip for the future: After creating a new drawing file (NEW or QNEW command) your first action should be to save the file - also if still nothing was drawn (to activate the AutoSave timer). This will not help you in the current situation, but perhaps this will help you to avoid such trouble in the future.
