I basically want to click the layout tab I created with title blocks and viewports and have it automatically freeze and thaw layers based on my preference. For instance if I select the reflected ceiling plan layout then the rcp layers automatically thaw and the electrical plan, etc all automatically freeze.

I want to know if there is a way that I can select layers to automatically freeze or thaw based on the layout selection (not viewports). For instance when I select a layout tab I would like for certain layers to freeze or thaw based on my preferences, or do I have to use layer states to accomplish something like this?

Hi,

>> a way that I can select layers to automatically freeze or

>> thaw based on the layout selection

Layer status could be your answer >>>details<<<

Create your layer states for each of your layouts, so it's at least just one click to activate them.

There is no such automatic built-in feature or ability: but you can (as most of us do) set each viewport in each dedicated layout (elec, rcp etc.) to only display those layers and hide others.

Or do you only have the one layout, the one viewport, and you are trying to do it all that way?

We'd love to see one of your actual DWG files to understand your workflows.

That makes sense. I'm trying to make a template to start every new project. I could make a new view port, set up VP freeze and then if I need multiple viewports with the same setting I can just copy it. I will try! Thank you for bringing that to my attention!!

If you were to consider third party software, DotSoft's ToolPac contains a Layout Switch tool that automatically saves the layer state of the current layout before switching, then restores the layer state of the selected layout.
