It doesn't work that way if you draw a line in paperspace and then dimension it.

Hi,

I'm a AutoCAD beginner.

I create 3D model:

3dm

Now, after that i go to Layout1 and create it view. (Layout Panel --> Create View --> Base --> From Model Space).

Below drawing are in 1:1 scale.

By using Annotation i created Dimension on model with 1:1 and with 2:1 scale - both results are equal and correct.

I create the red Line in layout by using Home --> Draw panel like in below image on both objects and used again Dimension.

Now lengths are different - i understand why (scales are different) but is there a way to correct or control scale/space for Dimension tool after changing object scale?

Thanks for help,

A.M.

If you are dimensioning an object that is in model space in paper space then as long as you osnap to the object you will get model space dims. If you draw in paper space and then dimension it in paper space you will get 1:1 dimensions.

Why are you drawing lines in paper space when the object is in model space? Your intent is unclear.

As I wrote before I'm a beginner in AutoCAD but not in 3D math, graphics etc.

I thought there is a fluid way to convert from one to another space but now i start to understand that AutoCAD tread spaces as separable "beings" as long as you do not use directly chspace command or snap to the object from paper space into model space (an implicit spaces conversion form "frame to frame") any operation will be in space which was it done.

Am I right?

A.M.

Hello @Anonymous,

Are you looking for a workaround like this? Adjusting the scale factor within the Dimension Style manager settings should resolve this for you.

Please "Accept Solution" if a reply or replies have helped resolve the issue or answered your question, to help others in the community.
