Two drawings with different scales

I have two AutoCAD drawings that were created at two different scales. The first is a site plan which was created at 1" = 40'. The second is the floor plan of a building, which was created at 1/2" = 1'. I would like to take some data from the site plan and add it to the floor plan. I am unsure of how to do it.

If the drawings are created in model space 1=1 you can copy and paste, they are only differentiated in scale thru paper space scale viewport. Thanks

Usually in AutoCAD the drawings - in Model layout - finished with 1:1 scale . since you have a drawing with different scales then you have to use Scale ( Reference ) to match your drawings . Select all objects in the drawing, Then use Reference to select two points and specify the intended distance, All the objects in the drawing are scaled accordingly.

Actually, in practice, the site plan was probably created with different units. So, even if the drawings are at 1:1, they will not copy/paste correctly into each other as the other responders are suggesting. You need to have the units matching in order for this to work. Change the units in the site plan to architectural. When you do this, some vertical of AutoCAD like MEP will ask you if you want to scale the objects, say yes. If not you will have to scale them yourself. Use a scale factor of 12.

Those are plot scales, aka for plotting: are you saying your drawings where not drawn at 1:1 scale in modelspace?

Or is the site plan using FEET for units, and you are using INCHES for your floor plans and you just need to scale by 12 when going between the two (12-inches in a foot as you well know).

If you have no idea what I am asking them please post both DWG files here for us to look at them for ourselves.

I actually selected some features in my site plan drawing, exported them to a dwg, and inserted them into my building floor plan. This seemed to work. Thank you.

just change your site plan DDUNITS to Feet, they should be the same with your Floor plan. insert as a block so you can move around your floor plan. see attached plan if they are correct. thanks

Both of your files have UNITS set to feet.

The problem is neither file was drawn at 1:1 scale, the biggest sin in CAD. Both files are horribly drafted at a plot scale as if you still drafted on paper. That's your problem.

You need to use SCALE command to fix both files so that they are back to the 1:1 scale. Once they match up, you can swap content between them easily. BUT... do not rely on the plot scale listed, if you measure the scale bars they sow something completely different and don't even match the listing. These are royally messed up.

You have a lot of work to do, these files are just badly drafted and scaled by an inexperienced soul that meant well but created a nightmare.
