Create a GENERAL FILE w an xref that contains another xref (xref tree)

Dears,

I am facing this issue with complex files.

I have a layout C that has to be inserted in a layout B.

This layout B has to be inserted in layout A and I want that the B file inside the A file shows the C file.

In few words I need to create a tree of xref but looks not possible on this file.

Could you please help me?

Make sure Layout C is an attachment, not an overlay. If you already overlaid it in Layout B, you can change it in the xref palette by right-clicking.

When you say “layout” hopefully you’re referring to the drawn objects in “Model” tab because you cannot insert or in your case xref any drawn objects that only exist in any of the “Layout” tabs.

Exactly, simply there are three dwg drawings A B C that have to be inserted one in another in another

I did it now dwg C as attachment in dwg B, and dwg B overlayed in dwg A but it does not work and there is no xref tree generated.

I see that normally to generate it the process is easy, overlay C in B, and than again overlay B in A but it does not work here, I wonder why

No as you can see the principal file in the external ref menu is referred to the A the one opened here

Straight forward process:

Open dwg B (Xref-B.dwg)

XAttach dwg C (Xref-C.dwg)

qsave

Open dwg A (Xref-A.dwg)

XAttach dwg B (Xref-B.dwg)

Then you'll have a tree in dwg A (Xref-A.dwg) with dwg B (Xref-B.dwg) and dwg C (Xref-C.dwg) as nested

I retried this method with xattach command from keyboard but nothing, UCS and units are the same, shoulde make the tree but does not happen (either on my personal laptop and company laptop and also with different files)

Again, unless you're able to share your dwgs, it's difficult for us to help you troubleshoot.

Perhaps there's something in dwg C that is preventing you from xref attach into dwg B

Then you'll never see it nested when you attach dwg B into dwg A.

But in dwg B after you attach dwg C in the External Reference palette you should be able to see dwg C listed. But if you don't that's the problem you'll have to solve first.

You have circular references meaning one file referencing each other.

This is what's preventing the nested tree to show up in dwg 1.

Once you detach them from each dwg then you'll have a tree in dwg 1
