Layout Scaling Issue

Hello all,

I exported floor plan layouts from the master file to create an individual dwg file for each floor plan. Then I opened one of the newly created dwg files. The drawing had a scale of 3/32:1, so I then imported the layout with the titleblock from one of the previous completed projects which had the same scale. However, the drawing looks too small in the newly imported layout despite being on the same scale. Can anyone tell me how to address this issue? Am I missing some trick here? Thanks.

HI,

it depends on your drawing system variables like INSUNITS >> Click << and/or -DWGUNITS command .

Thanks for your reply. I tried the solution you suggested but it did not work. I am attaching jpeg files for your reference. From the "master file" I exported the layout using "EXPORTLAYOUT" command to create individual file for the floor plan. Then from the previous completed project, I imported the layout to this newly created individual file by clicking right click on the layout tab>from template. I've checked ddunits for all the files and it is same. But still you can see in the "individual exported file" the drawing looks to small for 3/32:1 scale. Please advise.

This is an easy way. Do this.

For the Master file, perform a SAVE AS and save it with a suffix like '_100' don't over write the original Master file, you are creating a copy.

Next, perform a SAVE AS on Master file_100.dwg and name it B1. Delete ALL layout tabs except B1. You can delete a tab by right-clicking and DELETE. If you use CNTL+right click, you can delete multiple layout tabs.

Open Master file_100.dwg and perform a SAVE AS and name it B2. Delete ALL layout tabs except for B2.

Open Master file_100.dwg and perform a SAVE AS and name it B3. Delete ALL layout tabs except for B3.

Repeat the above steps as necessary.

If I understand correctly, you exported layout(s) to model, creating a new, separate file for each one(?)

If yes, all entities that existed in paper space are now in model space, exactly the size they were in the original file.

Viewports have now become polylines, exactly the size they were in paperspace

Objects that were shown in viewports are scaled down as they "appeared" in paperspace. If VP scale was 1(paperspace unit)=10(modelspace units), objects will need to be scaled up 10X to be the size they were in modelspace in the original file, etc for whatever scale original layout has.

Hope this helps, if not let us know what else you need.

In this case, none of the "typical" methods seem to work as the original objects aren't "precise"

If you change "units" to decimal, and increase the precision, you will see that objects aren't exactly the size represented by dimensions or properties when units are set to fractional with 1/16" precision.

You can either use @ChicagoLooper 's method, or go into the viewport(s) of each layout and copyclip all objects, and then pasteclip into a new file, then add title blocks and other paperspace objects as desired.

I did this method with the attached file, see if it works for you.

With the slight error in precision, scaling up by reference multiplies the errors tremendously, and scaling by a ratio (12/.09375) produces the same result....

If this is something you have to do on every file and every layout then maybe you can change your work flow. Scale the titleblock in layout for the 3/32 scale (as an example), then create your viewport at 1:1 scale. Work as normal and use exportlayout. No scaling required.

Thank you for sharing this. Its been a great help. I did exactly the same thing as you told me to do. Now, I have all the layouts thee way I wanted. However, now I am facing another issue. When I try to print it, the titleblock which I added from the another project is getting printed full size. First, it appears the unreconciled layer message (see attached). After I reconcile all the layers and try to print it, its not coming in full (see attached.)

Note: None of the layer is on non plot layer.
