Hello! I have encountered a problem importing a file from sketchup to autocad. The model displays correctly that's not a problem. The problem I have is that the scale is messed up and weird diagonal lines have appeared on my modeel, Lines which are not present in the original .skp file. Please let me know if this is a known problem or if you can't help me as I am using an add-in to import the .skp file. Thank you so much. If I need to send a screenshot of the problem with the diagonal lines let me know as I would be happy to do so!

>> the scale is messed up

Which (in most cases) means you insert the SketchUp-file into the dwg-file that has other units than your SketUp-setup.

>> weird diagonal lines

Surfaces are triangles, and the screenshot shows that you have triangles in the model.

When you change the visual style to "Conceptual", how does this look like?

Ok so i tried changing the visual style to conceptual and the model shows up correctly unless i move my cursor over the model and highlight it but i guess that's normal. About the scale though i am not sure if i did things correctly but i started a new drawing using the "no template - metric" template as i set the units in sketchup to meters when i started modelling. After that I imported the file again and when i use the measure tool it says that 8.72m( that's the dimension is sketchup) is 343 units in autocad.

Hi,

the sizes you are showing is the factor between Inch and Meter (39.3701 Inch = 1m).

So either of these files has incorrect units settings or the importer has settings you should look into.

I'm not sure that this is solved when you enter a factor in the dimension style.

E.g. inserting this object into another dwg-file will again show the wrong síze.

Could you upload the skp-file as well as the dwg-file you have got as result?

Hi,

well, I downloaded the plugin for SKP-Import (I assume you are using the same) and got the same issue.
The importer interprets the SKP-file as it was in Inch, not sure if the SKP file (as I don't know Sketchup and maybe it's special settings, e.g. in the viewer the dimension shows Meter, but when you go to model position and scaling it shows Millimeter) has issues or the importer in AutoCAD.

So I suggest to use command _SCALE in AutoCAD and (with option _REFERENCE) bring it to a correct size. Then inserting the file anywhere else would work too.

Your dimension style "Millimeter" with a scale factor of 25.4 shows the dimension with a value you can use to put the plan to paper, but using this geometry in other drawings would bring it in incorrect.

please find attached the dwg-file, now units set to meter and your geometry dimensions fit the ones in SketchUp.

Thanks a lot for your help! I wasn't expecting for you to modify the file so it displays the units correctly. I will see about the scale thing if it will ever be necessary for me to import skp files to autocad. Thanks so much again and I hope you will have a nice day!

Alfred, absolutely bang on. I think Sketchup Make is easy to use onsite for a survey and to import into Autocad increasing the scale by 25.4 works well. Thank You
