We have all of our LISP routines, blocks and files on our office server, and I have 5 users working on a Windows VPN without any issues. I'm having a devil of a time getting my 6th user set up. I can see the server, and access the files, but when we try to load some of them, the system just locks up. This is after we had him take home a work computer and set it up. VPN connection works fine, can see the fileshares, etc. but some .dwg files won't open - ACAD sits there with a black screen and we have to kill it to start over. Thought maybe it was a computer issue, so he came back and got his own desktop machine, which had been working on these files the previous day. Tried replacing WiFi with a cable to the router, went to Spectrum and got a new cable modem. Other remote users can VPN in and open these files with no issue. Also of note is that I can copy one of these files to the local drive over the VPN, and it STILL won't open in ACAD. But just the day before it was opening these files just fine.

Also, if I run ACAD as Administrator, I seem to have better luck opening files, but then my support files are unavailable . Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Carter

Yes, they can. I had a not-dissimilar issue years ago with a Point-of-Sale system. The daily sales reports, which were on the internet, couldn't be downloaded in less that 10 minutes. Everything else on the internet worked fine. Go 5 miles down the road, at one of the managers' houses, same Spectrum (Time Warner at the time) type of account, log in to the website with the same credentials and the reports popped up instantly. We actually had the local Time Warner execs come in and witness it themselves. After a month or more of head scratching, our POS provider suggested that maybe the issue was IPv6 routing. I asked Time Warner to have it turned off, but they said they couldn't do that. HOWEVER, if I paid for a static IP, the router had no option but to use IPv4 only and it would turn off IPv6 automatically. I bought the static IP, and the problem was instantly fixed. Given that this workstation opens up the files instantly when it is disconnected from the internet, I suspect that it's _something_ related to internet connnectivity/routing/magic.

I think you might be on to something. Interesting. Our vpn appliance has a fixed IP address as it connects to our IP AND we are running ipv4. Good Luck! We are running without any real problems..
