Title Block Questions

Hello Everyone,

I have been researching title blocks for a while now but havent found the answers I needed. I hope to find some help here.

First off, I know paper space is better but it seems like the industry I'm in, Process Piping, mainly uses model space and not paper space for printing. So for now, I'm not trying to change the norm.

Question 1

To print to scale in model space, what should the drawing border dimensions be? We produce a lot of 11X17 drawings. If the paper is 11x17 and I want it to print 1:1 then the border must be smaller, correct? Such as 10.5x16.5? Also, it's hard to know how much printable area I actually have when printing hard copy or to PDF. The printable area would determine how big the border dimensions could be, correct?

Question 2

If the drawing area is large, we scale the border up to fit the drawing area. The border would be scaled by a standard scale factor to make adjusting text heights easier. I can go into dim, text, multileader style manager and apply the appropriate scale factor but is there an easier way to do it? One place to scale everything?

I appreciate your help. I'm getting more involved in setting up CAD standards at work and am coming across little things like this that I want to understand.

1. Yes, the interior border would be a tad smaller. You can make the border along the top, right, and bottom edges inst 1/4" to 1/2", and make the the left border inset 1/2" to 1" if you desire.

2. Yes, you would scale the border UP to the desired scale. For example, if your model works at 1/4"=1'-0", then you need to scale your title-block up 48x. If the model is better suited for 1/8"=1'-0", then scale the title-block up 96x

Hello,

Thank you for your response. I still don't have my mind wrapped around this completely.

Some of my problems may depend on the printing settings used. But let me explain what I'm thinking.

Let's say I'm printing ANSI D 34x22. The actual width of the paper is 34x22. The printable area is less than that. I don't know how much. Therefore to stay to scale, or even fit on the paper, the border must be less than 34x22 and should have margins as you mentioned earlier.

I have seen these margins created by drawing another line that completely surrounds the main border line or just two short lines in each corner to represent the outside of the margins. Now, should these outside lines be at 34x22? I have seen some like this but the problem is these wont fit on paper either.

I may have found my solution. The first image below shows a border with the outside line at 34x22 and the inside line with .75 & 1.5 margins. Print settings as shown below. And the third image is the print preview. It cuts off the outside line because it is out of the printable area. Is there a better way of going about this that I'm missing.

Thank you for any responses.

God Bless!
