I'm pretty sure this would not work for everyone, but I "store" things I want in a drawing and don't want to be able to Purge by including them in a Block (if they are not already in a Block I use) and then scaling the Block much smaller and putting it on a Layer I call "Block". Then I turn the Block Layer Off, Freeze it and Lock it. The black circle below is 10' in Diameter but it holds all the Blocks, Dim Styles, etc. that I don't want to accidentally Purge. The circle is kept far enough away from 0,0 that I can "open" it up to edit or add without affecting my work and when it is "closed" it doesn't affect Zoom E.

I want to maintain my standard styles in a document without needing to include the objects themselves in the drawing, but I also want to avoid the risk of losing these styles due to a purge.

Is there a way to define my standard styles as non-purgeable by choice?

Hi,

>>"without needing to include the objects themselves in the drawing,"

Why not? This is the easiest and best way. Easy to understand, easy to handle.

Answer: No you can't, not ootb

Hi,

In AutoCAD, any unused item will purge. So ... what you're asking for is NOT applicable.

I can think of a "workaround" way to keep a font from being Purged. If you use what I would consider better drafting practices, you will have Text Styles defined for their various purposes, use those for-the-purpose Styles for everything, and not use the STANDARD Style for anything. It can cause trouble in copying/pasting things into drawings in which that Style may be defined differently. But the STANDARD Style cannot be Purged, even if it's not used anywhere. So if you assign a font to STANDARD Style, even though it is not used for anything, it will not Purge. [But that does have the same potential drawback as otherwise -- if you copy/paste something from another drawing not drawn under the same rules, that uses the STANDARD Style, it will have the font that your Style uses, not that of the one in the drawing it came from.]
