Hello, I have a topographic map of a water supply scheme, I want to measure the lengths of pipes from the drawing but the problem is that the creator of that drawing has not mentioned the scale of the drawing. So my question is that is there any method or some command with the help of which i can find the scale of the existing drawing and after apply that scale on the drawing i can measure the required lengths of pipes?

The pipe lengths should be drawn to their true size, but the drawing may be drawn assuming 1"=1'=0" rather than 1"=1" (assuming Imperial units).

scale-units. It may be more important to determine the units rather than scale.

1. type units and look to see if it's metric, decimal feet or architectural inches

2. use Id or list and select a labeled contour to see if the label matches the elevation. decimal ft 2220 Arch 2,220'-0"

3. check property boundary lengths if they are shown.

If all of these work then the drawing is at real world units and has not been "scaled" and dwg scale will have no effect on measurement. The only other thing that could effect your measurement is z angle and length. As long as the z distance reads 0 you will have an accurate horizontal measurement.

The annotative scale of a dwg is how large text, dimensions and borders are scaled to accommodate a printed sheet at a certain scale. Based on my experience, it can be very difficult to tell the scale of drawing based on annotation as people who don't understand the relation of annotation to scale make up their own rules-methods. It really becomes an issue when the noted scale of the dwg is incorrect and the linework has been scaled. Hopefully the top three items work out for you.
