3D Text in Autocad/C3D/...

Please create a option to make a Text/Mtext etc. as 3D text

Would be nice to extend the options of the text properties and simply give it a depth (like polyline)... would be great and way better then the workaround with TXTEXP etc.

MAKE AUTODESK GREAT AND SIMPLE AGAIN! No more workarounds!

If you install Express Tools you can explode text then do an EXTRUDE on the remaining polylines.

@Tomislav.Golubovic : you don't need Express Tools for this, and it's again the similar approach to the one I suggested... but you can't change text afterwerds since it is exploded...

Pls suggest solutions no workarounds... I'm tired of workarounds in the 21st century... can't be that difficult...

Thank you for sharing the added information regarding the TXTEXP (Express Tool) command for exploding text being part of the Express Tools installation with the Community.

Express Tools does need to be selected for install with AutoCAD and the Toolsets, it is currently not available for AutoCAD LT. For help with installing Express Tools see:

The Forums is a community of members with all levels of knowledge, all posts with the intent of sharing information that is helpful for the Community are welcome.

Both True Type Fonts (TTF) and Shape Files (SHX) fonts are specialized objects that are similar to blocks in 2D/3D behavior, which also cannot be extruded without exploding. Due to the way in which Extrude currently works, in order to give depth to these types of objects, it is necessary to convert the objects to standard geometry first.

You are correct, once text is converted to 3D the text based intelligence is lost. The same is true for dynamic blocks that are converted to 3D. I hope you have a chance to submit your idea of combining the features and keeping the text intelligence.

Currently the steps are outlined in more detail in the specialized TXTEXP (Express Tool) command article.

I understand it is possible to create a script (LISP routine) that combines the steps as well. The AutoCAD Customizations Forums members should be able to help you find or create one.
