Looking for best practices for large area hatching with multiple hatch patterns

Evening all.

I have a large area to hatch (landscaping) which has lots of paths within it that will need a different hatch.

My question is would it be better hatch the large area... send it to the back and then hatch the pathways over the top, or should i hatch each landscaping area between all the pathways (obviously alot more time consuming).

I'm essentially wanting to understand how Autocad reads the drawing when printing out as i'm trying to keep file size down and ensure the file remains usable.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Since we don't have an image for your drawing .. The most practical way is to start hatching every space ( Zone ) alone try to separate your hatch . it will be more easy for you for future modifications and updates .

To prevent memory and performance problems, the maximum number of hatch lines created in a single hatch operation is limited. However, you can change the maximum number of hatch lines with the HPMAXLINES system variable.
To maintain performance for hatches with non-continuous hatch lines, choose a predefined hatch pattern rather than loading and setting a non-continuous linetype. Beginning with AutoCAD 2015-based products, the HPLINETYPE system variable suppresses the display of non-continuous linetypes in hatches by default.
To control whether object snaps ignore hatch objects, add or subtract 1 from the OSOPTIONS system variable.
