ORPHANED DIMENSIONS USING ANNOTATIVE DIMENSIONING

OK GUYS NEED SOME HELP, BEEN OUTTA THE CAD GAME FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS. AND NOW IM BACK IN USING CAD 2020. ISSUE I HAVE IS WE HAVE A LAYOUT ALREADY CREATED WITH ANNOTATIVE DIMS ALREADY CREATED. AND BETWEEN 6 OF US HERE WE CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHATS GOING ON.

1)I CAN SET THE DIM STYLE TO (WTGANNO) AND ITS WORKS GREAT. BUT THEN IT WILL SCREW UP AND EVERY DIMENSION I ADD WILL DIMENSION SUPER SMALL LIKE IN THE PHOTO IM SENDING. WHEN IT CHANGES AUTOMATTICALY IT WILL CHANGE THE DIM STYLE TO AN UNKNOWN STYLE THAT IS NOT ONE WE CREATED AND ITS (WTGANNO$0) SO ITS ADDS THE $0 TO THE STYLE.

HOW CAN I GET THIS TO STOP HAPPENING?

1) LAYOUT PAGES ARE SET TO THE SAME SCALE IN THIS CASE 1/4"=1'. BUT WHEN I CLICK LINEAR AND TRY TO DIMENSION IT WILL NOT ADD THE SCALE AND MAKE MY LETTERING OR ARROWS THE RIGHT SIZE.

2) ALSO TRIED DIMSTYLE AND CHANGED TO PLAIN ANNOTATIVE, INSTEAD OF (WTGANNO) IT WORKS EVERYTIME BUT WRONG SIZING FOR WHAT I HAVE SETUP AS (WTGANNO)

3) BUT IF I (SET CURRENT) (WTGANNO) AND PUT IN A DIMENSION IT WILL REVERT AUTOMATTICALLY TO (WTGANNO$0)

Thanks for the file.

You are using two different DIMSTYLES with two different settings/look/feel to each, the 'larger text' is a dimstyle called ANNOTATIVE, the other is WTG ANNO. You can simply make anyone look like the other one by juust using MATCHPROP command if you are unable to select the correct DIMSTYLE ahead of creating the dimensions.

In your LAYOUT1, your viewport is not actually set to any scale at all, fix that problem and there are no dimensioning issues with either dimstyle.

What else did I miss? Explain the next challenge when you encounter it.

OK SO IN OUR DRAWINGS WE MAY HAVE A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT SCALES ON DIFFERENT LAYOUTS. EACH LAYOUT TO ITS OWN SCALE. IVE TRIED TO DELETE THE ANNO DIM STYLE AND NOW ,IT WILL NOT LET ME. IT CREATES IT WITH THE $0 AT THE END. THIS IS NOT A LAYER WE CREATED. DOES THIS MAKE ANY SENSE?

THE 2 PICS I ATTACHED SHOW NOTHING IN THE DIM STYLE WITH A $0 IN IT.

IVE ATTACHED ANOTHER FILE. IVE CHANGED THE SCALE ON THE VIEWPORT TO MATCH A GENERIC SIZED 1/4"-1'. AND DELETED OLD D STYLE AND MATCHDROPPED THE DIMS TO WTGANNO. NOW I CANNOT DELETE THE ANNOTATE DIM STYLE. AND IT STILL REVERTS BACK WHEN TRYING TO START A NEW DIMENSION

Thanks for the second file: again, you have the incorrect DIMSTYLE set as the default, so you will always create new dims with the wrong definitions all the time.

You have to actively change this in all of your files. Just like you do for TEXT, just like you do for LAYERS and more.

MATCHPROP command fixed the different DIMSTYLES for you in the second file. Once I did that, your other not-the-default dimstyle purged just fine.

Recap:
1. Set the dismtyle you want to use as default. always. in Every drawing. Don't assume it is the default.
2. Use MATCHPROP to make all dimstyles already drawn match the one you want (after you confirm it is using the correct dimstyle).

FWIW you can only delete content that is not in use, and sometimes you may not now where all of that is. If that is too distracting, you can purchase a brute-force content remover here http://www.manusoft.com/software/superpurge/store.html?page=shop.browse&category_id=5

About your 3)

Thats normal if you created a dimstyle for linear dimensions.

Using this dimstyle will use the linear sub-style, the name is <main dimstylename>$0 for linear dimension.

(Other dim types moves to another sub-dimstyle)
