Is there a way to have a field display the text from a dimension? I know it's possible to Frankenstein together an output using multiple fields (Measurement, Text Override, Alt units...) but this is time consuming and unwieldy - it seems like there should be a field that just displays the full text of the dimension (similar to using a field on an MTEXT with CONTENTS), no?

FIELD > OBJECT > Select the dim and explore the options is a good place to start, let us know what you want that is not already there

Hi pendean,

The problem I'm having is when you start to combine multiple text overrides, measurements, and alternate units. I know it's possible to create a Field and use formula with multiple embedded fields for each piece (plus a conversion factor for the alt units) to replicate the Dimension contents, however, I need to do this for many, many dimensions and it's a fairly complicated, time consuming process. It seems like there should be an option (similar to the "CONTENTS" field option we have for MTEXT) that would exactly copy all of the text from the dimension... I can't find something like this though & was hoping someone has a solution or simple work around.

Cheers,

Ah, got it: looks like you are ready to move away from core commands (and hoping Autodesk is ever going to make available a limited use need) to customizing to always get what you want and start having that AutoCAD subscription earn its keep: what's your preference, LISP or VBA https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-customization/ct-p/AutoCADTopic1

Don't forget to post over there with a screenshot of your intended/final results needs that also shows a source dim object, and maybe even a DWG with those DIMS in it, so you spend less time explaining and more time helping them help you doing.

HTH

Hi pendean,

I don't have any experience with LISPs and their like - they've always seemed beyond my ability, but perhaps it's time to teach an old dog a new trick.

Thanks for your time,
