I've noticed that my C drive is filling up rapidly, and I've discovered a folder named odis_download_dest in the local temp directory with a file named pkg.odis.tar being generated multiple times every day. Could this be related to AutoCAD 2025? I believe this issue began after installing CAD 2025.

Hello,

I'm seeing the same thing .. odis_download_dest folder and a few others are created. it seems to be updates trying to download. I've tried turning off the the desktop access to stop this from happening in the background. in my case the folder is 1.2GB in size. we have to routinely scrub it off. it does not seem to effect anything though. just takes up space in our profile allocation on Citrix VDI desktops.

I opened a ticket with Autodesk the same day you posted this.

I'm pretty sure it's the Autodesk Desktop Access Service that is the issue. Even though you can 'Quit" it in the background processes... the service is still running. need to be admin to disable that service. from the automatic startup mode.

I edited the registry to kill the run of the Desktop Access program. removed it from the Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run section and disabled the service so it does not try to pull updates and the %$TEMP% folder did not try and load the odis_downloads_dest folder etc. this seems to have fixed the issue for me. your mileage may vary.

Did you get a response from AutoDesk?

I also have noticed my C drive mysteriously filling up and have just found the "odis_download_dest" folder with over 1500 subfolders, many containing "pkg.odis.tar" files. Total : 230GB!!

There appears to be six new subfolders created every time I boot the machine, close to 1GB in total.

AutoCAD 2021.

Ransomware? Now that you mention it, AutoDesk's software does feel like that sometimes....

Symptoms are as the original poster and subsequent replies. With each downloaded file there is an info file containing a web address:

https://dds.autodesk.com/NetSWDLD/ODIS/prd/1.0/ODIS/B65D9DB8-34D0-380F-AE33-D34722CF3E05/pkg.odis.tar

I suspect it's AutoDesk Access is triggering the downloads. But since our laptops are practically welded shut by our IT dept we can't install anything anyway, so having AA merrily download stuff - the same stuff, repeatedly - is pointless.

Now waiting my for IT dept to either uninstall it or strangle it at birth. There doesn't appear to be a separate uninstaller for it (see my first paragraph).

Thanks, AutoDesk, the cheque is in the post.
