How correctly use lowercase letters for Installation Code and Location code in AutoCAD Electrical?

Hi community.

We need to use lowercase letters for Installation Code and Location code.

We can do it and press ok. Howether, if we re-edit the component and click in the location code again, then the lowercase becomes upper case again.:

Under project properties component tab bottom, we already unchecked the box Description text to upper case as per Solved: AutoCAD Keeps changing my lowercase to capital - Autodesk Community - AutoCAD Electrical , but this did not help.

Is there any other settings we shall look at?

I'm not sure but this could be the reason.

Uncheck it in the project properties.

Welcome to the wonderful world of AutoCAD Electrical.

This behavior is hardcoded into the program and cannot be changed.

I found this from a old board posting,

"open project dialog, select misc settings button, uncheck force descx to uppercase.
this allowed lowercase text in my component tag name.
descx first made me think it applied only to the desc tags but seems to apply to component tag also."

As Trond has stated, this behavior is part of the command's code and cannot be changed. If the provided options for affecting upper/lower case don't help with this particular attribute, you're stuck.

Hi,

Something hardcoded can be change, by updating the code at a developer level of course.

Anyway, there is a little trick to have lowercase as location, but keep in mind it's a trick and not a proper solution :

- With a location box :

As you can see location stay with lowercases, but this works only with "Parent component".
below result with "child component" shows that it becomes automatically uppercases

- Without location box :

If you double click on your component it will open the "attribute editor", there you can enter lowercases, that stays lowercases. This works with "Parent component" & "child component" also.

Here's another trick:

Export to spreadsheet (AEEXPORT2SS).

In Excel modify location and installation codes to lowercase.

Import from spreadsheet (AEIMPORTSS). In dialog box uncheck "Force Spreadsheet New Values to Upper Case"
