Hi all,

I find myself having to create symbols for PLC modules that are not in the library. I want to be able to build a complete module symbol with the Symbol Builder and be able to split it with the Split PLC Module tool.

It does not seem to work on a typical symbol of rectangles and terminals. I looked at a stock module in the symbol builder but did not see any clues.

What am I missing?

Thanks, Steven

I'm don't know about the split plc module tool. You can create parametric plc modules to your own design and create specific break points or just insert allowing breaks every point. Are you familiar with the parametric plc tool?

Not familiar with the parametric plc tool but it sounds like I may have to become familiar with it.

Thanks, Steven

The Split PLC tool should be named Split Block tool, as it works on other components as well.

Can you share the block you're trying to split?

Steven,

The parametric PLC option is very versatile but you're much better off developing your own style rather than using the supplied AE styles. I wasn't able to find too much helpful information when first trying to set up a PLC but went through the development process anyway, firstly working with the supplied blocks and then experimenting with a few modifications until, finally, the penny dropped. I guess the first thing you need to define is how you want your PLC connections to appear, (LOL, obvious really!) . If you have a current style, then that can be used as a base to break your blocks down to basic components, you then need to work out how you want them to appear. Trial and error unfortunately. Also, if you modify anything, don't forget to purge the blocks before reinserting the module or you'll get what's held in the memory of the sheet rather than the updates.

Good luck. 🙂
