topic Cable tag based on component tags in AutoCAD Electrical Forum

Hello,

I am trying to set up the tag naming convention for cables to include the tags of the two components it connects. For example, if I have a cable connecting 'BK01' and 'BK02' I would like the cable to have the tag 'BK01-BK02', without manually typing this in (see screenshot below).

I know there is a 'Use End Locations' button, however, I would like to do this without manually filling in the location field of each component.

You should be able to get what you need from the Reports/Schematics/Cable From/To report and then export it to a spreadsheet. It might require writing some VBA code in Excel to get it to Concatenate CMP1 and CMP2....

So I would need to export the data, and then use data import to rename the cables?

That would be correct. Concatenate From and To and store it in TAG1.

As with anything, make a copy of the export so you have something to restore from in case it goes haywire.
