Wire Number User Attributes not available for reports in 2016

I was testing the new feature in release 2016 that is supposed to allow values entered into the W01USER through W10USER attributes of wire numbers to appear in reports. I can enter the values into the fields using the new edit dialog, but the fields do not appear in the Available Fields list of a Wire From/To report. So I resorted to the older method of adding these attributes to the User Defined Attributes list. The fields are now available to add to the report but, just as in previous releases, the data does not appear in the report.

I did a quick test and modified one wire, seemed to work for me; see below.

Did all that. Rebuild/Refresh as well. Haven't tried deleting scratch database yet though.

I never touched the Scratch database, just used WDDEMO project and modified Wire 309A.

I just tried it with a fresh version of WDDEMO, including a fresh scratch database. I edited wire 309A and added two attribute values. Notice in the video at the link below that the fields for W01USER, etc. are not even available in the available fields list. If I add them via User Attributes the fields will be available to add to the report but they have no data.

Hi Jon! Problem solved. The Migration Utility brought over old .SET files from release 2015. These .SET files contain the available fields list and would of course not include the W01USER through W10USER fields, since these .SET files were created with an earlier version of the software. The User Attributes method still won't work. No data will display. But that is no longer necessary anyway, given this new capability in release 2016. Iif any customer has existing .SET files and would like to see the values of the wire number user attributes, they will need to create fresh .SET files.

Note: AutoCAD Electrical automatically creates a wirefrm2.set file the first time you change a report format, if you do not save this new format as a specific name other than wirefrom2.set, it saves as wirefrm2.set automatically and becomes the default format, unless you click the Format button and specify a specific format file.

The Migration Utility will migrate .SET files to the new release, including the default wirefrm2.set file. In my case, 2016 has a new feature that requires a fresh .SET file in order to function, and thus the default wirefrm2.set was preventing me from seeing the W01USER, etc. fields. So anyone who wishes to use the W01USER through W10USER fields in their reports, must create new .SET files. If you migrated old reports over like I did, be sure to delete the wirefrm2.set file before you attempt to create a new report that will include W01USER, etc.

Hint: I have had many customer requests over the years for adding wire termination device information to a From/To report. I'm using the W01USER field for the wire terminal on the "from" end of the wire and I'm using W02USER for the "To" end of the wire. I can then enter crimps like RING, SPADE, FERRULE, etc. into the W01USER and W02USER fields to define the termination device. These fields can be renamed once they are added to the report format (i.e. TERMINATION DEVICE FROM, TERMINATION DEVICE TO).

Here is a feedback from @pat.murnen about the case. (Just helping to copy paste her email here :))

The most likely cause is that the user has an older .set file. The .set files should not be reused from an older release if we have changed the fields because the .set file will be out of sync with the actual data. The .set files lists the labels for the available fields at the time the .set file was created. If the actual available fields change the .set file is wrong and the available fields list in the report is wrong because it is pulling the labels from the .set file.

So have the user delete any .set file for the report and see if they show up. You can find the default .set file names for each report in the Help topic:

So the user should delete the default .set file for that report as well as any custom ones they created.

If our Migration tool is bringing those .set files forward then that is a problem.

I was looking at the POST you had. I have added the W01USER and W02USER attributes to the block but the values don't show in the Wire From/To Report. What am I missing?
