Hi,

Each time i try to create a block in Autocad Electrical with the symbol builder, the action i have is mentionned "NIL"

How can i create one?

Can you post some more info? What version of ACADE are you using? At what point during the process are you seeing the 'NIL' message? The more you tell us, the easier it is to help you.

Hi,

I use Autocad electrical 2015, to see at what point i'm seeing the "NIL" message, plese see the attachment file.

It is after these step when i press "OK"

First thing I notice is that you say you're using ACADE 2015, yet the jpg says that it is saving to a folder for ACADE 2013. Try saving to the correct library first and see what happens.

Have you tried giving the symbol a name? There isn't one in the jpg.

Can you post the drawing here? Include the base drawing and the block you are trying to create. I can look at it tomorrow, or perhaps someone else on the forums can give it a look before then.

not on acade at the moment what i don't see is any of the attributes that define tag/symbol/etc basically all the attributes that trigger the intelligence but what i do see it was an promis e symbol at some point ( layers give it away) have you tried the promis e import facility but be warned it only works on version 5.2 and earlier Not A Consultant Just A User

I clean my drawing, all the lines are on the layer 0.

But i could made a electrical block in autocad electrical 2013, but not in autocad electrical 2015.

you dont have any attributes in the drawing so acade dosent recorgnise the block as a symbol

it should have something like this in the symbol there is a menu on the righthand side the symbol builder showing the attributtes yoiu should be adding

the text in the red boxes are attibuttes

Basically, what you are saying is that you can load the graphics into the block creator, but any other command (like adding an attribute) returns a response of 'NIL'.

Have you tried to create any other blocks since you started having this problem?

I just tried using 2014 (will try 2016 over the weekend) and had no problems with adding the attributes or saving the block.

Note that I tried the old Black box builder as well as the standard block builder.

One thing I did find is that you have a lot of residual gragphics an blocks on 3 layers that are turned off.

Turn those layers on, explode the graphics that show up and then delete them.

Also detach and remove any XREF's you have attached as they may be causing problems as well

Next you need to run the OVERKILL command to reduce the number of duplicated graphics.

Finally run the PURGE command to remove any extraneous layers.

All this will cause the block created at the end of the process to be a lot smaller in file size as well as not cluttering up any dwgs you may use it on.

After all that, try to create the block again, and if it doesn't work

Give it a try using the black box builder as it seems to be more robust and with less chance of an problem.

The command to start it is WD_SYM_BUILD.

If all else fail, try copying the graphics to a new blank dwg and then creating the block.

Yes i did, but nothing work.

I re-install autocad electrical 2015 and now its working.

First off, ccad and Brad are right on point with what they've told you. But it's occured to me that maybe we're all looking at this a little sideways.

So first, when you initiate the symbol builder, does your screen change at all? When I do it here, my background color changes, the block editor and symbol builder panels appear, and I get a new tool palette for working in the symbol builder. This is what is supposed to happen. Also, the command line reports 'nil' at this point while it waits for you to begin.

Is this the 'nil' that you are seeing? If so, then you're not actually having a problem; you simply haven't gone far enough in the process yet.

See the image: I circled in blue where the command line is reporting 'nil'. Up top you can see the panels for the Symbol Builder and Block Editor that appear when you start the command. Right in the middle is the Symbol Builder Attribute Editor Tool Palette. This image shows that I am in the Symbol Builder tab and on the left you can see its panels: Edit, Help, and Close (also circled in blue). Note: if you don't see the "Symbol Builder Attribute Editor" palette, it could be off screen, behind ACADE, or docked.

If your screen doesn't change, and you don't see the Symbol Builder and Block Editor tabs up top, then there could be something wrong with your installation of ACADE. In this event, I think you should uninstall/reinstall. If these things do pop up but the command ends right away, then you should also probably uninstall/reinstall.

FYI, just because you see the word 'nil' on the command line doesn't mean there is a problem. In LISP, 'nil' can mean either 'empty set' or 'false'. Neither of these conditions is necessarily bad, it all depends on context. You will often see '()' pop up after running a LISP routine, and it means the same thing.
