AutoCAD Electrical does not update project .wdp file after network outage

Hi,

AutoCAD Electrical does not update project .wdp file after network outage.

-Multiple users working on a same project. Project located on a network drive
-Short Network outage / network connection recovery
-User A adds a new drawing into project and her project sturucture tree updates respectively.
-At the same time User B who has ACADE open on a same project sees the not updated project tree. If user B updates the .wdp file the drawing added by user A will disappear.

User B needs to close/reopen the project or restart AutoCAD Electrical to update the project tree.
Is this known issue or a bug?

Is there any way to refresh the .wpd file automatically after network outage?
If the outage is short you may not notice it at all..

At the moment, ACADE does not work at all well with multiple people using the same project.

If user A makes a change and save the project then User B makes a different change before saving, the change from user A is overwritten.

You also get problems with one user making a change to a dwg which needs to update parts on other dwgs.

If another user has one of those other dwgs open, then there will be a write error and the change won't be made.

This leads to errors in the dwgs.

The best way around this is to have one project to cover everything project related and several smaller projects for individual sections.

This allows multiple people to work on the smaller projects for the sections and one person to control the main project.

If there is a change to the main project that affects all the others (Project Wide Title Block Update for example), that change has to be done when none of the other projects are active. Adding a dwg to the master project can be done at any time along with any other functions that don't cause changes in the rest of the project dwgs.

...I will re-open this case.

However, I still think there is a bug in functionality. The problem here is that the project tree does not update in a workstation 1 that has lost the connection/reconnected to network (after change done in other workstation 2 for a project while this one workstation 1 was offline).

Automatic refresh for .wdp is needed. The is not even manual functionality to read the wdp settings...

If you run this on the command line:

(c:wd_reset_proj_vars)(c:wd_proj_wdp_data)(princ)

Does it help in refreshing the changes? And pressing the "refresh"-button in the project manager, does that do anything?

Let's tag @PatMurnen_Adsk to see if she can confirm this behaviour.

2 computers working on the same project in a network.

User A adds a new sheet, and user B adds a new sheet. Everything is OK.

However; If there is a small or large loss of connectivity on the network, everything seems normal, but:

User A adds a new sheet. User B can not see this.

User B adds a new sheet, and overwrites the project file, effectively removing the sheet that user A added.

Is this correct?

Yes that's correct...also the changes done in Project Properties does not update (add/remove libraries etc..)

However, we noticed that if you "refresh" (select it again) the wd.env file the project wdp file and tree will be updated.

In this case we are using local wd.env file

I have reached out to the AutoCAD Electrical testing team to see if they can reproduce the issue and get it logged. I will let you know once I hear something.

To address some of Brad's comments - AutoCAD Electrical does have functionality in place so it can be used when the project is on the network, i.e. drawings are locked, .WDP is locked when being used by someone else. But, you are correct it does not update drawings that are in use by someone else. You should not get a write error though but a dialog that says which drawings are in use, and most times a chance to save the changes for writing out later using the Task List functionality. If changes are tasked the button on Proejct Manager is enabled. If you are getting errors let me know and I will make sure this is reported as well.

Thanks for reporting this issue to us, we have checked this issue, and it is reproducible in our side. We have added this issue into our issue system, will look into it in our future release.

We understand that it is a noisy problem, but for now, we don’t have a good workaround for it, you need to close the ACE and launch again after this issue happens.

I am finding that the project manager does not update when adding or removing drawings. This happens whether I am working our network or at home on my laptop - not connected to the network.

I find this happens all the time now. The only way I can get around it is to close the project and re-open it

For instance; if I "add the active drawing" it doesn't show up in the project manager. If I close and re-open the project it appears. Similarly if I try to remove a drawing from the project I again have to close and re-open the project before the drawing is removed.

I am using AutoCAD Electrical 17 running Windows 10

This is a known bug.
I got this from the developers in October:
"Just let you know that we can reproduce this issue in one of our machine now, we will do more research for this issue.
It is a Win10 64 bit machine, and both ACE2017 and ACE2018 have the same issue in the machine."

Hello!

I am still having this issue in ACADE2019.0.1 Update, and when using ACADE with Vaulted project (Vault workgroup 2019) i am getting this issue all the time, when editing drawing properties, adding drawings, removing drawings etc. basically any operation in project tree (wdp / aepx modified) will lose track of the actual project state.

Nothing helps except a ACADE reboot, so i am doing them routinely now.

This is a major issue in functionality, is there any news when this might get solved?

I wouldn't expect them to fix this for AcadE 2019. Keep an eye out in the newer versions.
