topic Rockwell Automation Updated Catalog data base??? in AutoCAD Electrical Forum

I have a HUGE amount of AB and Fanuc items to make prints for a build I am doing. I look for items in the catalog database for each component and I am only finding part numbers for AB and rockwell products from 2012 or older...how do I update the database for any items released by rockwell for 2017? I am using AutoCad Electrical 2014. I know the software is old, but I just installed it today and the databases are even older...

Updates to the database aren't solicited by Autodesk, it's up to the manufacturers to update them. We use almost 98% AB stuff here, and I'm adding things to the catalog all the time. Have been for 2 years now, and no end in sight. They have several products that don't exist in the catalog at all, and several more that have been obsoleted or have been greatly changed.

But really, it's not hard to add entries. For doing AB stuff, I just keep their search page open in my browser while I work, using copy-paste to get descriptions off of their website and into my catalog. I try to do all the catalog edits at once to make it go quicker.

Wish I had better news....

Jim

Thanks for letting me know...If Rockwell is to handle the updates then we should have 100000000000002932987326429087490000 of them by now.... they seem to force a new version of studio on us every two weeks it seems, why should the ACad updates be any different...

Now let’s get the facts straight here

Autodesk wants the component manufactures to deliver a package of data fully populated for ACADE with no return for the component manufacture

Would you take a deal like that no you wouldn’t so why should the component manufactures?

Now certain other ECAD companies have based their parts databases on a live server download now they constantly are updating their parts databases and manufactures are falling over themselves to supply the data now why is this

Because when you download a part number its logged by the ECAD company and passed onto the component manufactures as a potential sales lead

So, everybody wins the component manufactures get sales leads the ECAD company gets parts and the user gets his parts data

Which why having a server run by the ECAD companies wins out every time

Not like the current way Autodesk wants to run things

It’s just another nail in the coffin that’s ACADE in Europe

the advantages of having a server based parts management this is what i got when i logged onto the portal this morning

Not to rub salt in our ACADE wounds, but I have been researching Eplan Electric P8, and they also update smart symbols for IEC and NFPA quickly. I spend so much time in ACADE symbol builder(), its madness. I guess you get what you pay for!
