Still trying to evaluate AutoCAD Electrical, I’m using 2018.

Can a single line diagram be developed from a motor list (a database of the component’s) if templates or saved cct’s exist?

I know we can generate drawings by copying projects (drawings) and then doing an export -> update -> then import for each but can a schematic be developed from a single line diagram if the unique drive parameters have an equivalent schematic template? I've been informed these things are possible but haven't found the evidence?

Hi Paul,

Your looking for the circuit builder. (Its beside the Icon menu in the schematic tab)

Once the dialog box pops up you will see the all of the default circuits that you can configure.

In your case select the one-line motor circuit.

I hope this helps,

Hi James and thanks for your reply. I'll look further into the circuit builder. I have dabbled but haven't found anything yet that leads me to believe we can create from a motor list as such. What we are looking for and have seen is the auto creation of a set of schematics and terminations that are created from a database of drive information linked to smart .dwg templates.

In short, we drew a "typical" drive multiple schematic sheets and terminations, with smart attributes. Updated a database and hit the go button and it would grab the "typical" templates, update the drive information onto those templates and save the drawings. There was another document management system in play but that's not for me to discuss.

That sounds like one of the database driven schematic programs. ACADE is the reverse and is dwg driven.

The database driven programs read a database and create the schematics based on that.

While the Dwg driven require the schematics to be created first and a scratch database is created from them.

The Schematic builder is a way to automate common circuits and will insert components using a template and excel file to do so.

You have to manually select the component catalogue entries as there is no facility to read a file and apply the data to a circuit while building it.

You could build the circuit and then use the export/import data to do the update but that is an extra step.

Regards Brad

icemanau

you now youve just admited the fundemental flaw in ACADE which is the draw then link approach using a scratch database

thats thrown away the power of databases and thats what people are finding out now doing it the old way means time and effort
