Hello guys

Are there any known issues with the rating values being set inconsistently? I have a custom symbol (hopefully this issue is not to do with it being a custom symbol!!):

When I go to edit the component, I get the familiar dialog complete with the correct tags showing:

Now after choosing a part from the catalog which has a TEXTVALUE of 'RATING1=???V;RATING2=600W', I get the following:

which is correct. I use '???V' as this is a prompt to me to fill in the correct value (it is only a generic part and for reference only so doesn't require a specific part!!).

If I fill in a value, such as '240V' and click Ok I have this:

Clicking OK again, my part looks like this:

It has completely ignored the changes to RATING1 BUT RATING2 was updated.

I have to edit the part twice in order to get RATING1 value to update.

Please tell me this is not something to do with my custom part

Couple of questions...

1. Which version of ACADE?
2. What happens if you Retag/Update that component after placement (vs. editing it twice)?
3. Are the changes you made still there when you go back to edit the component, or are they wiped away?
4. What about the other attributes? Is it absorbing the correct tag number? I notice that there are two different tags in your screenshots. What happens if you try to edit the tag during placement?
5. Inside of the symbol drawing, on the RATING1 and RATING2 attributes, look at their properties. Specifically, the properties CONSTANT and PRESET. (Normally these are set to 'NO'.)

I tried to duplicate this on ACADE 2017, but got nothing. Everything behaves as I expect it to. I tried doing it with both established symbols, and made-from-scratch symbols built in the Symbol Builder. I placed the symbols without changing any values, then again with edited ratings. I used the exact same values as you, in case the question marks were having an effect. My results were fine.

What appears to be happening is, ACADE is just ignoring everything you're changing when you initially place the component. You said that RATING1 isn't updated but RATING2 is, but really, you're not making any changes to RATING2. It's already supposed to be 600W so it doesn't 'update'...it just doesn't change. Neither attribute does.

In other words, you're getting the symbol with ALL default values...this isn't about whether ACADE is choosing to update one attribute over another, it's simply dropping the ball on them both.

At this point, I would start with a Reset, followed by a Repair and then a Reinstall. First though, I would test component placement by other means. If you're using the Icon Menu, give the Catalog Browser a shot. Stranger things have happened, in ACADE.

Hope this helps,
Jim

I guess another thing to try, is to place the symbol in a different project that you know for a fact works. (This just feels to me like there is no issue with the symbol. I can test it if you post it here, though.)

If you can verify that the symbol works in another project, that would imply that something is wonky with the current project. If it still doesn't work, then it would lead me to suspect either the symbol itself, or that the software has gone wonky.

Do you have any other symbols like this, that work, to use as a comparison?
Have you tried to insert the symbol with alternate workflows?
What happens with other symbols (out of the box ones) that have multiple ratings? Are they behaving like this, or do they behave as expected?
