Symbol builder

I've found a problem with symbol builder.

In our company we are saving drawings as "2013" format due to our PDM system. We are in the progress of upgrading to 2018 so we have a 50% of our workstations with 2018.

The problem is that symbol builder will save the file as "2018" even though we have set the file format is set to "2013" in the options. So some of our symbols will not work on the other workstations.

Can Autodesk confirm this and offer a fix.

Hi there,

I do not have 2018 but my guess is that routine is hard coded in ACE. A work around might be to run Symbol Builder to create your component. After that is done use ACE to open the dwg file you just created and do a Save As and set the 2013 version. It will probably strip out some features but it might work for your application.

We can always tag @Anonymous here, but I don't think there's much she can do about this other than report it to the developers.

If you, or the other users, need to convert a lot of files to the 2013 release, use Autodesk Trueview 2018. Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies. Yes I can open and save as 2013, but I have 14 users all creating symbols. It is just proving difficult to manage. This could prevent us from upgrading to the latest version of the software. We have so many workarounds at the moment it's just getting silly.

Lee, I am able to reproduce the issue you describe. I will log the issue internally but I recommend you open a case at your end. Do you need help with that? Include the number of users affected and anything else that shows how it is affecting your business.

I've realised this is also the case with "WBLOCK", this will affect our mechanical users (8).

Lee, you can log a case through your Autodesk account portal (manage.autodesk.com) or by going to https://knowledge.autodesk.com/contact-support and pick Using my Product.
