topic Signal Codes disappearing in AutoCAD Electrical Forum

Hi,

I will set up signal codes and insert source and destination arrows using that signal code. The sigcode will then disappear from both arrows and there's a 50% chance that the arrows will update their references correctly.

I've purged my sheets and rebuilt my database. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

When do the sigcodes disappear? Only this project or on all projects?

(You have marked this topic as solved, you might want to change that in order to get more attention)

Did you do any practicing on the standard example projects that come with the installation of AutoCAD Electrical? If not, can you switch to one of those projects and try your source and destination procedure there?

Also, when does the signal code disappear? Is the source arrow's code disappearing right after you select it and click OK to insert your destination arrow?

Yes, I practiced on the example projects with no issue.

I will put in my source code and select it with my destination arrow. The destination will update with the correct reference but the source will stay ??.

What happens if you right-click on the source arrow to bring up the goofy-looking menu, and select "Retag/Update?" Does that work at all or 50% as you mentioned?

Are you using absolutely unique identifiers in the Code box when you set up your source arrows? For example, not using "DC COM" over and over, but giving it another number or letter identifier to make them completely unique.

I have seen drawing sets done in which the designer somehow used the same Code for the DC ladder over and over, and it worked pretty slick for them. But I can tell you, when I try that trick it has always ended up confusing AutoCAD Electrical and my only recourse has been to delete all the confused arrows and make the codes unique. So I will never recommend that method.

Nothing happens when I try to retag. I've been using unique identifiers for each signal.

OK.

1) Let's check your Project Properties for cross-referencing. You can post a screenshot or compare the properties to that known working example project.

2) What method are you using to match up the destination arrow with the source? Are you selecting it from a list with the Recent button or the whole project? Or are you typing by hand (less likely to work)? Have you tried the arrows on a single drawing and used Pick to match them up?

If you have seen it work sometimes, we will figure out how to get it to work every time.

At this point I'd need you to upload your project, or post a video of your procedure.

Is there anything at all different about the pairs that work and those that do not?

Sadly, I can't upload my project or send any sort of video (pesky NDAs). As far as I can tell, there is no difference between the pairs that work and those that don't. I use the same procedure each time.

Then I'd suggest you create a new project based on the examples instead of your company stuff. If the arrows work then you'll have more basis for comparison with your company project. If they don't, you would be able to upload it for assistance.

I believe that it is creating all of the source and destination arrows as stand-alone symbols. Could that have something to do with my issues?
