Just copy the disk to your hard drive/shared drive, modify as necessary, and then run the setup.exe from the drive that you copied to. Select 'stand-alone' install from the ACA 2008 configuration tab during the install and everything should be just as if you were installing from the disk.

1. Download and install Orca from Microsoft.
2. Copy the installation files to your hard drive or a network folder.
3. Backup the files ACA.msi and Setup.ini
4. Edit the ACA.msi with Orca and delete the action found in the table
"InstallExecuteSequence" that is called "CheckFor64BitOS" Delete the same
line under table "CustomAction"
5. Save and close the ACA.msi
6. Edit the Setup.ini with Notepad. Delete the line under
"#==================== Platform Requirement" that is labeled
"PLATFORM=NO_WOW_64_PROCESS"
7. Double-click the Setup.exe and you should be able to install without any
problems.
8. Some support paths under the "Files" tab of the configuration dialog box
have incorrect paths. The installer adds and extra "\AppData\AppData" to
some support paths located in the user profile. For example the Main
Customization File's path is listed as
"C:\Users\%username%\AppData\AppData\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ACD-A
2008\enu\Support\ADT" when it should be
"C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ACD-A 2008\enu\Support\ADT"
Fix the incorrect paths, hit apply, and you are good to go.

I wonder why the ADT team chose to disable 64 bit installs. The program
seems to function fine in Vista 64 bit. ADT 2006 and 2007 installed without
a hitch on this same system even though you had to set them to run as ADMIN
in order to be able to use them, so I am not buying the whole "the ARX
programs don't work with 64 bit" argument. I switched to Revit a few years
ago anyway, but it is a shame what they are doing to ADT. Peace out.

This works... installed this morning. No issues so far...
At the end of the install the installer brought up two dialog boxes that were empty with only an 'OK' option. Clicked these and the program installed but would not run. Ran a repair from the add/remove program list and everything is OK now.
Thanks for posting this.

Is Mr Kurtz dead???

I don't use ADT 08, but find it very interesting that ADT 04 works fine on
Win XP 64 bit, in 32 bit mode. Does ADT 087 not work at all, even in 32 bit
mode?? Has there been new stuff added to 08 that would make it not work in
64 bit.

Like Win XP 64, hasn't been out long enough? Isn't everyone going to 64
bit? Seems pretty stupid not to have the latest version of a software work
on a more current OS?? Mr Kurtz????

Cheers Peter.
While posters work-around is a great solution for those who already have a 64bit machine, Autodesk will not support it. There is a 64bit version of autocad, but few of the verticals have been ported to the 64bit environment. I guess Adesk have a time frame for this (if ever) but they are unwilling to tell us.

This method is confirmed for MEP 2008 as well - created a local copy of the files from the DVD on my hard drive, modified the msi file using ORCA, and the ini file as instructed - everything works great. I've also burned a DVD to have a backup image, and the DVD works to install the program as well.
Re: when will 64 bit OS be supported?
We have experienced a growing number of customer reports regarding the install of AutoCAD Architecture 2008 on a 64-bit Operating System. We do realize that users were able to install previous versions of AutoCAD Architecture on 64 bit systems knowing it was not supported. Due to this demand, our development team has provided us with a workaround for the issue.

We are aware of the growing number of users who are upgrading their machines and OS to 64 bit. To accommodate these users we are working on a true 64 bit application, but due to government regulations we cannot provide any further
details at this time.

Please contact Autodesk Support to obtain the files and installation instructions.

Thank you, we appreciate all of your comments and feedback.
Yes... what he said... You wouldn't want to do ANYTHING to voilate the EULA rules (does anybody actually read that stuff anymore?)... You never know when you might get in trouble for changing the install files so that the program actually WORKS. Yes... what he said... You wouldn't want to do ANYTHING to voilate the EULA
rules (does anybody actually read that stuff anymore?)... You never know
when you might get in trouble for changing the install files so that the
program actually WORKS. I wouldn't want to get in trouble for aiding and
abetting such a heinous crime.

Actually I've been wanting to flip out for about this for some time now... I've just been waiting for some bait.
That was fun. Now I feel greatly relieved.
There's nothing quite like a little whining on a public forum to bring peace to the mind.
I'm with you!!! The work around is great...but for the money we pay for a professionally developed product...I would rather have the original "out of the box" product work from the get go. This lack of attention to basic details and customer service is disappointing.
