Victoria,

I use AutoCAD Architecture 2018 and I have the latest patches installed. I had started the project with AutoCAD Architecture 2017 until we stopped back in the spring, then started the project back later this summer and then switched to AutoCAD Architecture 2018.

Everything that you have outlined in your first part of your response is true with my situation. I have the solid hatch in the wall style on its own separate layer with transparency turned on. I have the plot with transparency box checked. When I uncheck the box the hatch plots. If I change the hatch pattern from solid to something else, the hatch will plot with the transparency box checked. I believe you are very close to solving the problem, being solid hatch with transparency on and the xref clipped.

I will install screencast video software when I get a free moment and let you know.

Thank you for your help.

Scott

Not enough information: what are the solid have properties? what layer is it on? Is it on a layer set to NOPLOT only in the viewport (that can be done, has nothing to do with modelspace settings for the layer) or a color override in the viewport?

The solid hatch is on its own layer. The properties are set to ByLayer so that when I explode the drawing and send it to our consultants, they can erase/change/modify the hatch as they seem fit. The hatch layer is on and is not set to no plot. The thing is, if I unclip the xref the solid wall hatch will plot.

Thanks

Difficult to diagnose the problem by looking at the images.

I am guessing here but if you are using AEC walls and other objects and then combine different levels (elevations) in one file it may be that

the display configurations of the object hatches act strange.

Hi @scottEAGSM,

First of all, welcome to the Autodesk Community, and thank you for posting your question here in the AutoCAD Architecture forum!

I think you're experiencing the same issue that I'm working on with a couple of other customers at the moment as well. I'm not entirely sure what is causing this to happen yet, but here is what I do know:

This occurs in AutoCAD 2018 and/or AutoCAD Architecture 2018.

Only solid hatches in clipped Xrefs are affected.

All of the affected hatch I've seen has transparency set (either at the object level, the layer level, or both).

The hatch reappears if the Xref clipping boundary is removed.

The hatch reappears if Plot Transparency is unchecked in the plot dialog box.

It would be help us narrow down the cause of the issue if you could:

Provide a set of DWG files (parent and Xref) where the issue is occurring for you.

Provide as much detail as possible about the affected file. Which version did you create it in? How did you set up the hatch and its properties/layer?

If you can recreate the issue simply from scratch, could you record and post a Screencast video to show us?

Did the issue start happening after a particular update was installed?

Thanks for your reply yesterday.

Were you able to install Screencast and record the behavior from start to finish? Could you post the screencast here for us to see?

Additionally, this is very difficult to troubleshoot without actually seeing the affected DWG files. Could you please ZIP up an affected set of files and post them here, or send the to me in a private message, so that I can analyze the actual files?

I have not been able to reproduce the issue here from scratch, and any steps you can provide to help me do that will go a long way toward getting the issue addressed.

I'm following up with a new suggestion for you to try.

If you adjust the visual style of the viewport to Shaded, and then plot, does the issue subside?

Victoria,

Changing the viewport for "As Displayed" to "Shaded" does not work, if fact it is worst. Everything in the viewport becomes colored and pixelated. The sold hatch becomes visible.

Scott

Not so much a fix but maybe a work around if you want to leave the plot transparency and object transparency on because of other objects. You could use hatch ANSI31 or whatever and make the scale small enough that it would print solid because of plotter pen overlaps. I only suggested this because you said if you change to another hatch it worked.

I may do that when it comes time to plot the drawings for submission. I am going to wait until that time hoping that Autodesk comes up with a true fix.

Thanks,

Thank you for providing the sample files. I've tested and confirmed the issue in your files, and attached them to the open development issue.

We are still not able to reproduce this issue from scratch, however. This is preventing us from determining the root cause of the problem.

Any additional information you can provide here will be extremely helpful:

How and when did you create the file?

In which version - ACA 2017 or ACA 2018?

Was the wall style created in 2018, 2017, 2016, etc.?

If you start a new drawing from scratch in ACA 2018, can you make the issue happen? (If so, please record the full process in Screencast and share the video so that we can analyze it.)

Has this always happened for you in ACA 2018, or did it suddenly start happening (after a recent AutoCAD or Windows update, for example)?

Has there been any progress with this issue? Autodesk Civil 3d 2024 user here where we just encountered what sounds like this exact issue. The "fix" was to eliminate Xref clipping boundaries. Not ideal, but simple enough. Not a real solution however.
