Transferring settings & CUI to new PC

I have a new computer and want to transfer all settings, CUI info. etc. so I don't spend the next 3 days "fixing" my ACAD environment. Can anyone point me to the step-by-step process to insure I do it correctly?

What version(s) of what product?

Is the application on both the old PC and the new PC the same version?

I keep finding this article, but under the heading MIGRATE FROM OLD TO NEW COMPUTER the first step says "Install the newer version of AutoCAD in trial mode on the old system"

This sounds like instructions for upgrading to a newer version, not transferring from old to new computer.

Just ignore the steps that don't apply to you and move on.

Migrating ~~from old to new~~ computers:

....
On the Start menu, use the Export AutoCAD Settings option under the Migrate Custom Utilities menu to export those settings.
Copy the resulting ZIP file to the new computer.
Import the settings using the Import AutoCAD Settings option under the Migrate Custom Utilities menu.

DBroad, good advice I'm sure.

I wanted to backup / move my settings too, but when I go to the startup page, all I see is a blank screen.

I disabled the startup screen long ago, but can see it when I enable "display file tabs"

How do I get back to it's menus, recent open files, etc. in there ???

I'm not sure. My approach is to never migrate. I keep all of my customization files, including blocks, pattern files, linetypes, programs, plot styles, and special cui files in my own folders and it takes about 1 to 2 minutes to transfer those files and the associated profiles to another computer (like my laptop). I leave the ribbon in AutoDesk's hands and customize by programming and by adding tool palettes.

Before you give up, try doing a reset. If that doesn't work do a repair install. Then try the migration process again. Make sure export from the same version you are importing and make sure that all of the installation locations and folder names are the same between computers. Migration won't necessarily carry forward any files other than those under AutoDesk control, such as ACAD.LIN, ACAD.pat, ACAD.CUI, etc.

Ah, thank you! A nice example, and how I wish Adsk would handle it internally.
