You can draw a closed polyline that represent the plan view of your structural
member (2 kinds: design and/or detail)
Type the command -AECSMEMBERSHAPEDEFINE (don't forget - at start) i have
italian version it need it
and follow the options.
Then you can define a style with member catalog with the name you want.
When you have inserted the member you can change in modify element style the
shape of the element and assign the shape
you have defined before, from the shape list.
I hope this help you!!
As far as the parameters for the shapes are concerned, there are no tools to
date other than your favourite XML editor.

If you want to add new shapes to the catalog, you will also need to program
that new shape. If you are willing to do that, and you are in ADN you may
want to check if any samples are available.
If they are custom shapes, you need to be familiar with both XML (to edit
the tables and catalog) and C++ or VBA to create the shape creator object.
If these both hold true, let me know and I'll provide more pointers
What I'm trying to create is a footing object. To accomphlish this I am
creating a structural member. I created a polyline to the exact size I need.
Then using the -aecsmembershapedefine command I create a new shape, name it,
graphics, design, select the polyline, select an insertion point. Create a
new style in the Style Manager. When I add column on grid it uses the
centroid. Is there a step I'm missing?
