hey man, thanks for the reply, its the same image, but pointing out the flicker just in case it wasnt clear.

using arnold 2.1.0.1 core 5.0.2.1 in maya 2018

lights are a skydome, with hdri image, 3 directionals and 2 area lights

snap.jpg

not really solid in lighting, so excuse me if the setup isnt great, any notes would be helpful

I see no difference between those images. Are you saying the specular highlights disappear randomly between frames?

Can you provide more information/images about the scene? How is it being lit? How are you rendering it? Which plugin are you using etc

hello all,

Noob question, this scene has an hdri light and 3 directionals. Scene renders fine for the most part, but in the highlighted areas (check attached image) i get random white flickers around this part of the model. i tried to pump up samples to 12/1/1/1/1/1. just to brute force a solution since most online suggestions are up the samples, scene is already oddly time consuming to render although its a relatively simple scene with basic ai shaders.

but this is my first arnold rodeo so any info can be helpful.

thanks

Do you have a frame where it is missing or an animation showing the issue?

What sampling settings are you using? How many shadow samples for the lights?

Can you isolate some lights to see which one is causing it? Maybe rendering out AOVs would help isolate where the noise (?) is coming from.

Disabling some features may give you a clue as to what is causing the issue.

Any errors in the log?

Hey,

Each of the lights except the area lights cause flicker, directionals don't cast shadows.

i solo'd each light in the scene, issue is mainly with directional lights and the hdri, increasing their samples doesnt affect this issue.

here is a link with a sample.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1R3PcwUoSQHXryDHIP3hMfRt4ZVkQhIWu/view?usp=sharing
