Once your bones and ligaments (I mean, your Reference Planes and Parameters) are set in a family it is time to start doing some muscle building.

Let’s talk about extrusions, sweeps, blends, and such, both solid and voids. See how the way a family is built has a lot to do with the weight of the family. Let’s explore some best practices for building muscle.

Something about that question of when to do a Sweep as opposed to doing an Extrusions, let me add something. I got to thinking about this more and more as to why I would do it one way or another. I was doing a back splash on a work table. Often when a work table like that goes into a corner or a room it would have walls on a side and the back. By doing a sweep I can easily generate another vertex on the path by editing the sweep and drawing a line along the side of the table with the wall. An extrusion could not do that. Hope this clarifies this more @Anonymous.

I thought that this Drop In Sink showed a lot of what I was talking about today. Since we did not get to do a lot with voids and that is the star of this family, I thought I would share. Hope it helps someone out.

It is in 2019 because that can be brought up, later versions could not be taken back. I build all I can in the earliest version I can because of ongoing projects.

There was a question about Reporting Parameters. Since I have never used those before, and I am not afraid to admit it, I went searching. Here is what I found out.

Autodesk Help file describes a use for them as a parameter type that has its value driven by a particular dimension in the family model. Their example for this is to develop a curtain panel with reporting parameters for the lengths.
